CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Hidan
Canon: Naruto
Point taken from canon: After Asuma’s death. Manga chapter 327.
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance: Hidan is an extremely expressive individual and rarely ever hides his emotions. He stands at 177.1cm and as silver hair that is always seen slicked back. He has lavender eyes and has a fairly muscular build. He wears his headband around his neck. The headband has a slash through the symbol as typical of missing-nin to show that he is no longer part of his village. He also wears a pendant around his neck in the shape of the Jashin symbol; a triangle in a circle.
Hidan wears the Akatsuki gear but goes shirtless and leaves the front of the cloak open to expose his chest. He is never seen without his primary weapon, a crimson three-bladed scythe that can be controlled by a long cable hidden under his cloak.
When undergoing his ritual, after consuming blood, Hidan's appearance changes. His skin turns black with white markings, giving him an almost skeletal look.
Background:
Hidan is from Yugakure. As he child, he had a surprisingly normal childhood. The death of his father seemed to be the trigger for the beginning of his violent tendencies. As a shinobi, he found joy in violence and his skills were fairly well-known in the village. Eventually, things in the village began to change. Originally a hidden village, it transitioned into a peaceful and prosperous village, also a tourist hotspot. Outraged by the change, Hidan killed his neighbours before defecting at the age of 16.
Not knowing where to go, he wandered around before chancing upon followers of Jashin and joining the cult-like faith. Jashinists were expected to bring nothing less than complete destruction and death. Anything less than that was considered a sin. As though finding his life's calling, he embraced the religion with enthusiasm and was soon rewarded with his immortality. When his fellow Jashinists discovered his new-found immortality, they started to become wary of him. Were they disrespecting the gift that Jashin gave him? Those undedicated fools. Displeased, he killed them in the name of Jashin.
Later, he joined Akatsuki for religious reasons. There, he was partnered with Kakuzu due to his inability to die. Although the two of them disliked each other, they worked rather well together. The two of them defeated Yugito Nii, the two-tailed bijuu. Hidan offered Yugito a chance to surrender as he claimed his religion didn't allow him to leave his enemies alive. Refusing his offer, Yugito transformed into the Two-tails but was still easily defeated. The pair then continued to a temple in the Fire Country where almost all the monks were slaughtered. The head monk's body was then taken by Kakuzu to the nearest bounty station. Refusing to go in as it was hidden inside a lavatory, he waited outside for Kakuzu only to be attacked by Asuma, Shikamaru, Kotetsu and Izumo. A fierce battle ensued as Kakuzu joined the fray. It eventually ended with the death of Asuma. Before they could kill the others, they were called away by Pain for the sealing ceremony.
Personality: Hidan is the rudest, foul-mouthed and disrespectful member of Akatsuki. He is not afraid to let his opinion be known and can be seen frequently cursing and complaining at everyone. Despite his foul language and loud, over exaggerated behaviour, he can be mellow, calm and seemingly approachable. While he is sometimes called an idiot, he is not. Under his care-free exterior, he is actually quite intelligent. His vocabulary is also extensive though his use of constant threats and language indicate otherwise. Unfortunately, his wit seems to be directed at annoying people. He just doesn't really care enough to try and act intellectual with other people. Overall, he is a fairly laid back person who has no regard for others and will do whatever he wants.
Despite appearances, he is actually a very religious person and never goes a day without praying or sacrificing. The pendant he wears around his neck is used to pray for his god before battling, either requesting a good kill or asking for forgiveness if he's not allowed to. The fact that he is actually willing to go through all the complicated and tedious rituals shows how dedicated he is to his religion. He is very loyal his god, Jashin.
Hidan is actually very loyal to those few people he trusts. However, past experiences have left him bitter and he has little faith in humanity, believing that they should all be slaughtered. In his eyes, bonds between people are too easily broken. He constantly insults his partner for blasphemy and his love of money. One of the reasons that his former village turned itself into a tourist destination was that it seemed like a more profitable venue. This is one of the reasons why Hidan doesn't really like people who are money-obsessed. Although Kakuzu pretty much embodies everything he hates, he does hold a sort of grudging respect for him.
Cocky and rash, he often rushes into battle with no strategy except to successfully acquire his opponent's blood. Hidan kills people indiscriminately and has no moral restraint in doing so. He prefers to draw out his battles and making his enemies suffer as much as possible before eventually killing them. He can be quite the sadomasochist as he takes pleasure in the pain he causes himself and his enemies. However, he seems to react normally to injuries that aren't self-inflicted. 'Normally' means bitching and complaining how much it hurts though.
Abilities/Strengths: Hidan is a very straight-forward individual. If he wants something, he’ll go for it and can be quite persistent as well though some would argue that that’s just his natural stubbornness. He is also not afraid to speak his mind and will let you know in the bluntest way possible. While not a genius, he is actually quite intelligent. Unfortunately, he rarely ever seems to take advantage of the that.
Hidan's defining strength would be his immortality. He is able to survive even the most fatal of injuries, including decapitation. Even as a head, he retains his ability to speak although he cannot control his body. His body parts are easily reattachable. He is still susceptible to pain that isn't self-inflicted, though how tolerance for it is higher than an average person's.
Hidan is able to wield a large, crimson triple-bladed scythe with exceptional skill. A long cable connected to it that is hidden under his cloak, allows him to manoeuvre it most effectively. It seems to be designed to draw blood rather than deal damage. Although Hidan claims that he is the slowest attacker in Akatsuki, he has been shown to be extremely agile and dexterous.
Upon consuming his opponents blood, after drawing the Jashin symbol on the ground (in his own blood mostly), he is able to link his body with his opponents. He then becomes essentially, a living voodoo doll. Hidan enjoys toying with his opponents and inflicting non-fatal injuries instead of killing them quickly. He has several collapsible spikes on his person simply for this ritual.
Weaknesses: Hidan is the slowest in Akatsuki and only relies on a small amount of knowledge in battle. To date, he hasn't been shown using any jutsu aside from his curse. He acts rashly and does not plan or strategise anything. He actually has been shown to possess some intelligence but more often than not, he'll just charge in without thinking. His goal in battle is simply to obtain his opponent's blood so that he can perform the ritual.
Although he is immortal, he can be rendered useless by simply decapitating him. He'll live but will be unable to do anything until someone reattaches his head to his body.
He is a selfish, cocky and impatient individual. Aside from his immortality and above-average skills, he hasn't been shown to have any other skills. It is unknown whether he actually knows any other jutsu. He also has a bad habit of ranting and drawing out battles for his own amusement.
