Wind Ensemble actually used to be quite good...many moons ago, LOL. I love Stanny. That is all.

I feel your pain sometimes, dude. McCumber's not a bad guy most of the time, but I feel like some stuff that really should be looked at more in depth isn't and we suffer for it later. Symphonic Band has a number of the same problems, but on the other hand, I'm sure that orchestra has a few of it's own.

If it makes you feel any better, I thought you guys sounded great earlier this week.

Are we complaining about the rep, conductor or musicians in the Wind Ensemble??

Does anyone remember playing Rocky Point Holiday with the Texan? That was awesome...
Point being - every ensemble goes through a few years of 'growth' and maybe these just happen to be them. A lot of new players have been put into the ensemble and myabe just trying to get everyone to work together has been tougher than once thought. I'm not offering excuses (I don't know what goes on behind the scenes - I'm not there) but try to stay positive (even though you're discouraged). Maybe if you found some rep. that you thought the ensemble could do you could mention it to McCumber - I'm sure the stuff for this year is already picked out - but maybe he'll choose that piece for next year. Who knows man, just keep tootin' your sax (as it's not a horn in my vocabulary ;)) and keep playing your best. What else can anyone ask for?
Keep smiling!

do you ever think that maybe no one cares, because they can forsee very little future in being a full time wind ensemble musician? it's not a good reason not to respect your ensemble enough to do a good job, but it's a reason nonetheless. it sucks being a sax player in this situation. it really does...because it's all you have, right? there's no kick-ass orchestra for you to wail in, and small, chamber type ensembles? unless you start your own, fund it yourself, and you're really, REALLY good (a la "New Berlin"), forget it ( ... )
