Ubuntu and Moon Boots

So after weeks of frustration, I finally got Ubuntu properly installed on my computer.  Then I managed to fuck it up by accidentally deleting a key file in the grub menu, by pushing the wrong button.  Thankfully, John's dad is a unix god (he's even got business cards) and he helped me re-install Ubuntu, and then edit the grub menu properly so I ( Read more... )

Do his business cards actually say "Unix God" on them? 'Cause that would be so awesome I'd ask you to mail me one. :)

I was really glad when I got Ubuntu on Vincent, my laptop -- I don't get the chance to use it much, though, right now. I'm hoping at my next apartment I'll have a hardwire connection to the ethernet, instead of relying solely on wireless, so that Ubuntu will actually be something I can use while doing productivity things, as opposed to something I just play with 'cause it seems cool. :)

I believe they do, although I've never seen them. I'll see if I can't get a hold of one ^_^

Does Ubuntu just not like your wireless card, or what? My install uses wireless just dandy.

Actually, when my sister's fiance put Ubuntu on my laptop, he just told me that it was notorious for not making wireless connections, at all, so I don't even know where to go to try and connect to the wireless. Got any tips for me to at least make the effort? :)

Up in the right hand corner there should be a little icon that looks like reception bars do on a cellphone. If you're connected, they'll be colored in (I think mine color in blue) if not, they should be gray and have a little x in the corner of them. If you click on the bars, it should bring up a menu underneath them that lists all the available wireless networks. Just choose yours, input your password, and you should be good to go!

I have noticed that Ubuntu disconnects a little more frequently than does Windows, but that's about all the problems I've had. And that could mostly just be because our wireless router is aged ad cranky, and hates us all.
