My next home will have some minimal requirements, and one of these involves the laundry facilities. It is transparently obvious that the people who design American homes have never washed their own clothes. Nobody actually responsible for this task would ever put the washing machine and dryer in the basement of the house. The very idea is insane

Having just come back from Ireland, I'm aghast all over again how much energy we waste here in North America. In Ireland, you have to flip a switch to activate outlets, and there's typically another switch to turn on the hot water. Much more resource efficient...

Also, the main storage for dishes used every day should not be above the dishwasher. Although that may be less of an issue for people of average height or taller.

However, our washing machine now DOES leak a lot. Well technically it's not the washer, it's that little sock thing that we keep at the end of the outflowing water hose, to catch the lint before it goes down the drain. Darn sock thing springs a leak after ~3 uses because I keep buying cheap stuff, and water ends up spraying everywhere...
