Fear Itself has been one of the latest Marvel events*, and while it hasn't actually been... well, very good, it has had some cool moments. Like, say,
Thor summoning his hammer THROUGH SOMEONE'S TORSO.
But that moment of ridiculous badassery (or just ridiculousness, depending on your tastes) has come with a price...
Thor is dead. ... Again.
But at least he goes out
stabbing a giant dragon (who is actually his long-lost uncle**) in the head to fulfill an ancient prophecy--which ain't a bad way to go, on the whole.
And admittedly, the Fear Itself even has delivered on some other nifty moments--take that death scene, for instance. You may notice Captain America holding something in the background of the second panel.
Here, take a closer look. Remember: "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy..."
Oh, and there was also
Loki's Magic Secret Action Squad! (although they might not actually be calling it that).
These two things alone have made this event worthwhile, even if it means that Thor's dead for the second time since I apped him to Camp 5 years ago***.
*There are three at the moment, corresponding to Marvel's three main franchises--Fear Itself for the Avengers, Spider Island for Spider-Man & the street-level heroes in Manhattan, and Schism for the X-People. I've only been reading FI and the Spider Island tie-ins, because those feature Spider-Girl, Cloak & Dagger, Iron Fist and the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, and the Incredible Hercules. If you know who any of those characters are, you should app them right now.
**And no, not that
long-lost uncle.
***Y'know, I really thought they would've killed Ricochet off by now... But
there's still time for that.
