Heya! <- this is ooc
Actually, I don't know what to write here. It's not like something lj-worthy happened since my previous post. Either that, or I have forgotten them. Le sigh.
I have been very productive with my time outside work. Do take note that in my dictionary the word productive is synonymous to entertainment. I have marathon-ed all ten seasons of Smallville (thank you internet, for making 10 years wait into a couple of months wait), several kdramas and now hooked up with Kamiki's dramas since I decided to watch Gakkou Kaidan. All in all, all is well in my entertainment department.
I brought a new phone (how come I forget to mention it here before?! *gasp*) for my mum. A low end phone, suitable for my mum who still doesn't know how to open text messages even after using mobile phone for 11 years. It's a Xiaomi RedMi 2, which is all superior (T_T) than my current Samsung S Advance. Well, that was a given since the latter was released in January 2013 while the former earlier this year.
I would have been tempted to grab one for myself if the 2GB (RAM) version comes in Malaysian market, if it is not for the fact that my mum's RedMi caused blue screen of doom on my beloved sexy-red Vostro. I tested and verified that the attempt to pair Vostro and RedMi using bluetooth will cause the former to get BSOD on my BSOD-virgin notebook.
Therefore, if I need to transfer files between Vostro and RedMi, I will have to use my Samsung S Advance as the middle man. It is important for me to have good bluetooth connection between my phone and Vostro since I frequently transfer files between them. Therefore, given the current problem with pairing Vostro and RedMi using bluetooth, it is not favorable for me to replace my current phone with a RedMi.
Some people said that the problem might be due to missing driver, so installing a driver for RedMi on Vostro might solve the problem. That sounds like a simple thing to try but it is somewhat a hassle when it involved a Xiaomi device.
You see, the company's objective is to produce cheap but good performing phones. They focused on their objective, which is all is well in the world until the user needs user manual and supporting software like drivers. If you are like my mum whose probability of reading phone manual or connecting phone to computer is the same as the probability of me seeing Dai-chan in real life (dreams doesn't count), you will be a happy clam with your new Xiaomi phone. Bless you. I'm not, so I need user manual in order to fully optimize and customize my phone and I need drivers because I love my electronic devices being buddies with one another. So it broke my heart when I saw the prospect that my notebook might not be able to communicate with my phone. I had never had this problem before, so I am very firm about my requirement on my phone's ability to communicate with my notebook.
Maybe I can google for it, but I'm really adamant about installing a driver (or any software for that matter) unless I am certain that it will solve the problem. I have seen a driver for Xiaomi phone floating around on the internet, but I'm not sure whether the driver will work for my phone since they have not specifically release a driver for RedMi.
Sigh.
On the other note, I still have the phone with me until I go home a give it to my mum. I will have around 1 month with the phone.
On the other other note, RedMi 2 came preinstalled with SwiftKey keyboard (smart decision Xiaomi, why waste time and money developing your own keyboard when there are so many free and good keyboards on PlayStore) and thus introduced me to the world of wonder. I had been limited to my default Samsung keyboard (it had never occurred to me to look for and install alternative keyboard before) and this new an wonderful and packed-with-awesome-functionalities SwiftKey keyboard had opened my eyes to a bright and colorful world of wonder. Imagine me as Alice in Wonderland, with the blue and white dress and all... please do not puke T_T
SwiftKey has restored my faith in predictive text (I did give another chance for Samsung keyboard to prove its predictive text prowess. It failed.) and I now enabled it on both my Samsung phone (now using SwiftKey too ^_^) and my mum's RedMi.
I'm out of ideas now. So, ja ne!
