Set Default Language for Microsoft Word

May 22, 2008 18:45

In Word the default language serves as the basis in Spell Check, you'll need to change your Word's default language if your Word comes with American English as default language and you need to write project report in British English.

Thus this article will tell you how to your language preference so that your dictionary and grammar check will always be in UK English (or any other language).

Tell me the solution!

1. Close down any instance of Word/Outlook/Excel etc that you have running.
2. Go to Start, choose All Programs, find your Microsoft Office folder and choose Microsoft Office Tools then Microsoft Office Language Settings.
3. In the dialogue box that appears ensure that English (UK) is included in the Enabled Languages
4. Make sure that English (UK) is chosen as the language that defines default behaviour in Microsoft Office applications.

Now any new document you open will have English (UK) as the default language.

If you need to convert a document’s default language that was created before you did this:

1. Open the document
2. Press Ctrl+A to highlight all the text
3. Go to Tools -> Language -> Set Language
4. Highlight English (UK) and click Default.
5. Say Yes to the dialogus box that appears, then click OK.
6. Save the document and the language preference will be changed.
