This is a wonderful overview AND SO TRUE. The anime really lacks in some points and I am sure I wouldn't love No.6 so much if I didn't read the novels. I love the way you explain (for lack of a better word :'D) Shion's personality and the things about him the manga & anime leave out; he really is much more loveable in the novel :)

Thanks a lot for sharing :))

Thank you for reading!
I already liked his character a lot from reading the manga and watching the anime, but I think it's safe to say neither really do him justice compared to the novel. It's only after reading the novel that I really fell in love with his character.

You are soooo right. I started with the anime first and it didn't make much sense to me at first that Shion went all gaga over the storm. It made him look like a freak, when in the end he's just someone drawn to nature and happy that this was something human beings couldn't control. I mean, I was fond of him already during the first ep, but what really hooked me up with him were the things I learned by reading the novel...
I somehow think he's bound to look like the oh-so-often-seen girly guy. Yes, he's doing the housework but it doesn't seem that... wifey in the novels to me.

I also find it a sweet touch, how even during the 4 years they were apart, Sion is reminded of Nezumi constantly by completely mundane events. It's also effective foreshadowing.Thissss, I think it would have been such an improvement if they had shown stuff like this in the anime, if only to make it more convincing that he's immediately following Nezumi as the mouse calls ( ... )

Yes! I adore how the mechanical and organized environment of No. 6 is contrasted with descriptions of Shion's feelings while observing unpredictable and violent forces of nature!
And exactly, what I mind about the anime with regard to his character is that he's just.... there, like a piece of furniture (okay, that's a bit exaggarated, but you know what I mean).
I really hope his character developement improves as the anime goes on. It would just be so sad if it doesn't because he is not a simple character at all, he's all these different people merged into one individual.

Thank you for saying it's beautiful, I am so flattered, and it's so lovely of you to want to show it to your friend!

I am happy you agree!
I hope it doesn't look like I dislike the anime and manga, because I actually love them both to pieces, I just wanted to point out why the novel is clearly superior.
And I agree, it's so lovely being able to enjoy it in different versions. I just hope juggling the three doesn't get too confusing and I forget what happened where in which moment ;_;

Hai, I've been wanting to try reading the light novel. I found a translation from Nostalgia on 9th Avenue.
I wonder is it the same translation as the one you read.
I tried opening the link you put, but it seems like the link is private.
