in all honesty, 90% of the records i bought this year were not released this year. many of my favorites were holdovers from last year that i discovered late (i.e. breather resist, DFA79, and mastodon.) so i was left with the difficult task of compliling my top 10 of a lackluster year. here goes ( Read more... )

For Against, "December" - It's a reissue, so maybe it doesn't count, but it was long overdue, and it towers above 98% of what's being done now. Like the pyramids or something.

Yes, I wish it was 1986.

word, son. and no, i didnt count reissues. however i think that ink and dagger record is better than like 80% of what is on my list.

WTF. This was NOT a lackluster year for music.

What about the Coke Dares re-release? Devendra singing songs about marrying little boys? Dangerdoom? The New Pornographers? Wolf Parade? Black Mountain?

first of all, these are my personal opinions! feel free to disagree in a non angry manner.

second, re-releases dont count. third, dont really care about devendra (except that story about jc telling him he had a nice penis) or any of those other bands. especially wolf parade.

and black mountain records are boring.

1. You are so not metal.

2. Re-releases do indeed count, according to most "Best Of" lists I've seen.

3. Fuck the Decemberists.

:)

I'll post my list soon, and you can make fun of it, too.

it really wasnt a good year. i had trouble doing my yearly compiling of records.

antony is one of my favorites. i just picked up sleater kinney - the woods and it has been on rotation in my player. those girls definately know how to rock!
