Steve and I have broken up again. I think that this time around it's both more painful and less painful at the same time. Less painful because I already knew what it would feel like, and because it wasn't simply being dumped this time, but a mutual decision. More painful because I know that this time it isn't just 'taking a break', and that, ( Read more... )

I noticed you had this quote on your profile. While this quote may be true to some. I also understand that our constitution gives the freedom of religion. I think that freedome holds true to any person in the United States whether they be a politician or not. I could say that you posting this conveys a message of exclusion to me because I practice a particular religion. A true believer in God would know that God loves everybody no matter if they are a criminal, hate filled, anti-god, or a believer. Statements like this only turn people against each other, just like the A.C.L.U. This is just my opinion, you don't have to agree. I wish you heaven.

"When the government puts its imprimatur on a particular religion it conveys a message of exclusion to all those who do not adhere to the favored beliefs. A government cannot be premised on the belief that all persons are created equal when it asserts that God prefers some." Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun in the Lee v. Weisman ruling, 1992.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I don't really see how my posting the quote is exclusionary to anyone of any particular religion, so if you could perhaps explain ( ... )

What religion is our government endorsing? I see people practicing different religions everyday.

If you go to the ACLU website, they want churches to take crosses off of the front. Is this fair to people who believe in a particular religion? The ACLU is one of the democrats biggest supporters.

<< What does endorsing one specific religion say to those people?>>

I still have never seen the government endorse a religion. I know there are politicians such as Bush who uses his belief in God to make some of his decisions, but have never seen one endorsed.

Posting that quote is not saying that I believe the government is endorsing a particular religion, but simply that I believe it is something that should not happen. I don't believe, either, that I said that in response to your comment or anywhere else.

I don't believe that the U.S. government officially endorses any particular religion, but some are given a kind of favoritism. I don't see that as a good thing either.

As for taking crosses off of churches, I think that is rather silly. I didn't see any articles on the ACLU about this. The only articles on the removal of crosses were about public places: a desert preserve, a public park. If you know where there is actually something on the ACLU website that advocates removing crosses from churches, I would like to see it. Otherwise, I'm inclined to believe that it's some sort of anti-ACLU propaganda. If it's not, I apologize, but until I see it I'm very reluctant to believe.
