Um.

So.

Yeah.

THINGS THAT I LIKED:

I enjoyed River's throwback to the Doctor's line in The Time of Angels: "There's always a way out." I wonder if that's going to become one of their Things.

Can I just say that I really, really appreciated NOT BEING ACCIDENTALLY SPOILED FOR THIS EPISODE BY THE BBC? I cannot even begin to fathom why they chose to release pictures of the spaceman shooting the Doctor on the day before the episode aired. It robbed me of all the shock value from that part of the episode. I'm really grateful that I get to come into this one with no spoilers and enjoy my brain screaming things like "HOLY CRAP YOU JUST SHOT AMY, WHAT THE FRICK, IS SHE DEAD? SHE CAN'T BE DEAD OH MY GOD YOU JUST SHOT RORY THAT IS NOT OKAY YOU CANNOT SHOOT MY RORY HOW DARE YOU OH GOD NOW THEY'RE BRINGING THEIR DEAD BODIES TO THE DOCTOR HE'S GONNA FREAK OUT WHY ISN'T HE FREAKING OUT oh they're okay after all. Whew."

Can I just say that the Doctor kissing Rory's head is kind of the best thing ever.

"Whatever they might think we're doing in here, they know we're not going anywhere." My mind did not leap in any inappropriate direction at that sentence. Nope.

Oh, Doctor, you snap those suspenders.

"What about Doctor Song? She dove off a rooftop."
"Don't worry! She does that!"

Lol Doctor. How did you sneak into the spaceship.

[awkward throat clearing] "...America salutes you." <3 <3 <3

I'm really glad the Silence are as terrifying as I was hoping they would be. They didn't really scare me much last episode, but in this one they're positively chilling.

The Doctor's face, and the way he closes his eyes when Amy is calling for him over the transmitter...so much love.

"Incredibly strong and running away...I like her."

"This is a video phone...whatever a video phone is."

Lol. River's communicator can get texts and stuff. I love the idea of her carrying around a glorified cell phone.

"I love you. I know you think it's him -- I know you think it ought to be him -- but it's not. It's you. And when I see you again, I'm gonna tell you properly, just to see your stupid face. My life was so boring before you just...dropped out of the sky. So just get your stupid face where I can see it, okay?"

"You are Amelia Pond."
"You're ugly, has anyone mentioned that to you?"

"Oh, hello, Amy! You all right? Wanna watch some television?"

"This is my friend River: nice hair, clever, has her own gun, and unlike me, she really doesn't mind shooting people -- I shouldn't like that...kinda do a bit..."
"Thank you, sweetie!"
"I know you're team players and everything, but she'll definitely kill at least the first three of you --"
"Oh, the first seven, easily."
"Seven, really?"
"Oh, eight for you, honey."
"Stop it."
"Make me."
"Yeah well maybe I will..."
CAN I JUST. FLIRTY!DOCTOR IS NOW MY NEW FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD.

Okay...I knew River was gonna be badass with that gun...but I had no idea she'd be QUITE that badass.

Most adorable Amy/Rory kiss ever? YES.

That entire scene in Stormcage, including the kiss, is just...I can't...there's...and the...with them...it's...yeah.

...so is Rory now the Doctor's thermo-coupler expert? Because I like that.

"...what's a time head?"
"I don't know, but what if it had one?"
"...A time head."
"...shut up, all right?"

No, Rory. You're never ever going to stop being stupid, which is why we all love you so very much.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS:

I know this is an unpopular opinion...but I am not a fan of the Doctor's beard. Not. At. All.

Holy crap, Rory is covered in SO MANY TALLY MARKS. Has he just been at some sort of Silence convention or something?

I'm not sure I buy the diving into the swimming pool gag...but I'm willing to suspend my disbelief.

Also...I have no problem with the Doctor taking the time to shave after escaping Area 51 (I know some fans have been like BUT WHERE DID HIS BEARD GO and I'm like...HE SHAVED IT OFF WITH A RAZOR, GUYS...), but would he really stop and get a haircut, too? The only explanation I can think of is that River cut his hair herself, because there wasn't time to stop at a barber's. Which is ADORABLE, and I expect fanfiction about this.

I have to say, the scene when they explain everything to Canton -- with the hologram, and the bowtie adjustment, and the shooty thingy into people's hands -- was spectacularly written. Scenes like that, where so much information is somehow all packed into the dialogue seamlessly, make me proud to be a follower of the Moff.

OH GOOD LORD DOCTOR RENFORD IS SO FREAKING CREEPY.

AUGH SILENCE AUGH THEY ARE ON THE CEILING LIKE BATS HOW ARE THEY DOING THAT AUGH AUGH NIGHTMARES FOREVER

Um. So, are there really people who think that Rory looks sexier in that suit and glasses? Because, uh...I'm not seeing it, guys. He looks ADORABLE and AWKWARD, but...the glasses just aren't doing it for me.

OH GOD THEY HAD TO HAVE RIPPED THE LITTLE BLINKY TRANSMITTER OUT OF AMY'S HAND. THAT IS NOT OKAY.

Ohhhh, Rory, you're going to make me cry. His reactions -- and the Doctor's reactions, because they're clearly both feeling it hard -- to Amy's frightened voice over the transmitter are just heartbreaking.

RIVER YOU JUST REALIZED THAT'S THE LAST TIME YOU EVER GET TO KISS THE DOCTOR. MY HEART HURTS.

IT CANNOT BE A GOOD THING THAT THE TARDIS TRIES TO SCAN AMY FOR A PREGNANCY AND THEN JUST KIND OF ENDS UP GOING "UH GUYS I'VE REALLY GOT NO CLUE WHAT'S GOING ON, WTF."

QUESTIONS:

It kind of annoys me that we didn't get a very clear explanation of what happened between this episode and the previous one. Like, I get the general idea, but I'd like to know why Rory was in Arizona, and why River was in New York, and why Amy was in Utah, and how the Doctor ended up in Area 51...and I'm not sure I understand why Canton had to pretend to be hunting them down with the rest of the FBI. And we know that they spent three months trying to figure out the Silence, but we don't know how that actually went down...and it's bugging me. Maybe the Moff will return to this storyline later...?

Also, clearly Canton and the Doctor were in cahoots, but did Amy, Rory and River know that they weren't actually going to be killed, and that Canton was on their side? (And while we're at it, what precisely did he shoot them with, if not, you know, bullets?)

The Doctor doesn't have a dorky lanyard pen. Why doesn't the Doctor have his own dorky lanyard pen?

So I guess we're supposed to assume that Dr. Renford was the one writing those creepy messages all over Greystark Hall?

Okay WHAT THE FRICK IS UP WITH THE DISAPPEARING HATCH IN THE DOOR AND THE EYEPATCHY WOMAN GOING "NO I THINK SHE'S JUST DREAMING." WHAT THE FRICK. THAT UNSETTLES ME MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS ENTIRE EPISODE, NO JOKE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

Why do the Silence have the little girl? Why are they raising her or protecting her or doing whatever they're doing with her? And why did they kidnap Amy? What purpose could she possibly serve them? And why did they need a spacesuit? What are they trying to do?

PREDICTIONS AND SPECULATION:

Okay, so...Amy may or may not be pregnant...we're obviously supposed to think right now that Amy is the girl's mother...the girl regenerates at the end...so...uh...right now, the Moff seems to be trying to hint that Amy is going to have a part-Time Lord baby. I don't think that this is actually very likely to be the case. Unless the show unexpectedly veers way off into Eleven/Amy territory, undoing the episodes and episodes of character development that have led to establishing that Amy loves Rory, she's not going to sleep with the Doctor. I have two tentative theories about what that picture of Amy and the baby may actually mean. For one thing, we know that Amy is going to be cloned at some point in this series, and we also know that one of the series 6 teasers that we've been given is the sentence "It's not really her." So it's possible that the Amy in that picture was a clone. My other theory -- the one I like more -- is that the kid may actually be River, or River and the Doctor's own kid, or someone entirely unrelated, and the Silence are trying to make Amy think that she's the mother, for some creepy, evil reason.

As for whether River is the kid...I dunno now. I don't think River's a Time Lady, but that doesn't mean I'm right. My main problem with that theory is that if she had been that little girl in her own past, River would remember everything that's going on, instead of being as baffled as everyone else. Unless she's pretending not to know what's happening, in which case, damn, River, you're an unsettlingly good liar.

Oh, and: we have NOT seen the last of Canton. He's going to be back, I guarantee it, and I CANNOT WAIT.
