What a day

I was planning to blog about what's been going on in the past few weeks, but hey, let me just talk about today.

* My old undergrad adviser offered me the reigns of a 6-figure web design project (it's backed by a grant or two). Uh, yeah. FREE TIME IS OVERRATED

* I had a phone interview with a law firm downtown for a server administrator position. (That was a much better than I had expected after coming home to a voicemail from an insurance litigation firm - I completely forgot that I had applied.) This isn't on top of everything else like the last item; this would replace my current full time job if they offer me the position.

* I saw a doctor (the lead surgeon for the US Olympic skiing and rugby teams, actually) about my shoulder problem that I, um, sort of meant to blog about but have been too busy. I'm on anti-inflammatory meds and doing physical therapy for the next 6 weeks to strengthen my rotator cuff. He was a little confused when he read one of my questionnaire responses, specifically the "What do you do that makes your injury hurt?" question. I left out a whole bunch of things like "Getting punched, shot or stabbed in the shoulder" because, although I am confident these things would indeed hurt, I haven't actually experienced them. One thing I did add was "lifting cats" because when I lift a cat, my shoulder hurts. The interaction went something like this.

HIM: "Lifting cats?"
ME: "Yes."
HIM: "Did you mean lifting weights?"
ME: "No, I haven't done that since it started hurting."
HIM: "Cats."
ME: "Yes, I live with cats, and when I pick them up, it hurts."
HIM: "I see."
ME: "I have to pick them up a lot because they jump on things they're not supposed to."
HIM: "I thought you might have meant lifting weights."
ME (thinking): Clearly you are a dog person, or ignore whatever cats you live with.
ME (speaking): "I thought it might be important because they don't weigh much."

* Speaking of cats, my parents had to put their cat Kitty down. (My brother named her when he was four.) She hadn't eaten for a week and started vomiting blood. We got Kitty when I was a junior in high school. She was the last of my childhood pets. I hadn't spent much time with her in the last 10 years, so it isn't too bad. But it's another reminder that I'm getting older.

So, that was today.
