A bad idea that many cooks can't worsen

It has been decreed that there should be a lab potluck at some point in Oct. I had joked about making some variation on fly food as people food, and now the boss is kind of happy about that idea. I'm kind of taken with making actual fly food but in a human-kitchen and marketing it as "flan". Nobody would eat it though--we all know what fly food ( Read more... )

Substitute molasses for rum and agar for gelatin.

Second thing that came to mind:

cornmeal cookies (substitute molasses for brown sugar).

For the cookies, you could even have a jelly filling/topping to incorporate the agar.

Indian pudding! Cornmeal + molasses + a lot of dairy. You could top with a agar-based vanilla panna cotta if you want to get all three.
