When did things stop being addictive and start being addicting? I can't believe in descriptive grammar here, even if it is technically correct.

It might be because people started using addictive in its passive sense (prone to being addicted, i.e. 'I have an addictive personality.')as well as its active sense (prone to enticing addiction, i.e. 'this game is really addictive') and so people started using the PAP of the verb, 'addicting,' to distinguish the one from the other?
