I don't really watch variety shows, so I can't compare to a particular one. I compare this to a variety show because of the types of things they do every month. It's a Nico Nico show, so the staff designs goofy challenges for them to do. Usually their incentive to do the tasks is that for however long they can work at the task, the fans get to see a corresponding number of seconds of whatever PV they are promoting.
One month it was a giant sugoroku board where they had to do impersonations, dress up in cosplay, or get whacked by a horse-man with a giant paper fan if they lost a square. Last month it was three members doing a school-type challenge, where they had to answer trivia questions correctly or get things dropped on their heads. The fun part is watching them gamely meet whatever challenge the staff throws at them. Alice Nine really is a band of funny guys!
