[Review] BORN - Radical Hysteria

It's been awhile since I wrote an actual review, so here's one for BORN's newly released single, "Radical Hysteria." This particular review covers the Regular Edition, released 3/21/12.

Sounds like this makes the case for digital downloads of Japanese singles very well. Honestly, the artwork and the whole "Suck my dick or death!" sounds like the band slavishly imitating American heavy metal of the '80s, with the whole "OMG LET'S BE AS OFFENSIVE AS POSSIBLE!!!!" mindset. They'd probably be best to remember they're a contemporary Asian band (as the second track seems to demonstrate), not an old-school British/American one.

I had the same impression of old-school 80s metal. Back in HS, there was this kid who sat in front of me who would wear this band tee of a trashed-out chick with underwear around her ankles. That's what this CD artwork reminds me of--not good. It's misleading, since the sound isn't really that heavy.

I'm sure they were trying to build the image around the lyrics for "Radical Hysteria," but that was unnecessary imho.

I didn't like VIGOUR, is this single better than the full album?

Hmmm... if you didn't like VIGOUR, you might not like Radical Hysteria. There's nothing really extremely different between the single and the album. However, if you liked Face from Vigour, you might really like Cobra from the single. I suppose it all depends on how much you like BORN in general. I really do like them, so I'm happy I got the single.

My favourite work by them is DOGMA: sadly, I've been quite disappointed by the full album :( still, I know they got potential. I'll try it...
