And then there was a walking plant...

Sometimes when you go far away, your memories and the places you left pieces of your heart go with you. You are never alone. You are never forgotten. You are never cast aside as useless.Voile lifted her chin to eye the tall building before her. Inside the halls were classrooms, some of which she'd been in herself. Months ago only, except it seemed ( Read more... )

Something had compelled Cyrus to go outside. Perhaps the wind blew in just the right way, or the sunlight shone the way it had that day on the Spear Pillar, but something felt almost nolstalgic about that day ( ... )

She was as sentient a being as any human or trainer. But for as much a living entity as she was, could she bleed? Voile had never suffered an abrasion or worse than to determine the truth behind the theory. Notably, if she transformed she imagined she could suffer everything that her former trainer could have. But when she was a Gardevoir... Where exactly did that leave her?

Books often described someone in shock as their blood running cold. She'd never experienced that sensation, but she was positive when she heard Cyrus's voice, that it was something akin to that very feeling.

Cyrus. The man who had captivated her with his silver tongue. The man who somehow managed to pull her from logic into an emotional state that she had shunned for herself. The man who had blinded her. The man with whom she had constantly attempted to bring into sunlight and out of the darkness he hid himself in.

Professor Cyrus. The man who teaches the ethics class. He is sad and awkward to the point of pity. But her feelings for him had certainly been real ( ... )

His visions had never spoken before. He had always known them to be false and had never been mistaken by them.

This was Voile. She was present before him, something he was positive would never happen again. And yet...

He expressed nothing, but he wasn't certain that he could hide everything from her. He had realized after she left what he felt for her, and he could hide it away all he wanted but he knew that he could never hide it from her.

"You ran away. I dislike that."

It took a single look in his direction for her to read his eyes so plainly. And what she saw undoubtedly frightened her.

Voile was not afraid of rejection. She was not afraid of unrequited love or experiencing heartache. She'd already been down that path once before. Her own trainer, the one with whom she had adored to such a great extent. And then there was Cyrus.

No. One-sided feelings were acceptable. It was the idea that he might have mirrored them. That was frightening. How was she to be an appropriate... something rather to him? She couldn't be a girlfriend, a lover, or any of those other things that Knuckles had mentioned to her. She was naught more than a Gardevoir and he a man.

Even though her eyes were not on his, she could still feel it. Such warmth and radiance from such a normally cold man.

"I did not run," she corrected him blindly. "I was broken. No more than a glass vase with wilted flowers that had been knocked off a table and shattered. It took time for me to recollect the shards and even more time for them to be ( ... )

Sure, she hadn't been accepted to the college program yet, but it didn't hurt to check out the campus, right? Cammy's only experience with Smash Academy prior was at the football games her former classmates used to love so much, and being part of Capcom High back then, she wasn't likely to be welcomed with open arms. But it really was beautiful... and large. She hated to ask for help, but eventually everyone reaches a moment where they just can't help it. She was most certainly lost. The blonde rounded a corner to see a strange girl looking at the main building... Cammy couldn't tell if she was even human or not. Regardless, she approached the other tentatively, holding her folder against her chest and attempting to catch the eye of the green haired girl.

"Excuse me... ? Do you go here?"

She could have stared for hours. She would have, honestly, if she hadn't been interrupted. In hindsight, it wasn't really an interruption. If it had been, it would have been a welcomed one. The second person to distract her was not the blue-haired professor, with which came some relief at the realisation.

Voile turned, her willowy appendages swaying this way and that and for many moments she simply eyed Cammy. She was unfamiliar, and most of Voile's initial reactions with any and every person were those that detected feelings from a first impression. In silence (and sometimes better than speech), she could discover many an interesting thing about an individual.

I used to, the gardevoir almost replied. Then she scrunched up her face to the best of her ability as she spoke.

"I did, at one point in time. I will make my return in the coming days, if they should allow me." She paused and shifted her frame carefully to better settle her weight. "You must be new. Did you have any questions? I may be able to assist."

Cammy gave the strange looking girl a nod. She was almost entirely sure that this person wasn't human, but it would probably be rude to bring that up. Oh. She had just asked her a question.

"I do. I was actually wondering where the dorm buildings were? I'm planning on attending the university here, and was giving the place a look."

The dorm buildings. She must have been excruciatingly new. Didn't they have people to show others around? At all? Well, when she'd come, Knuckles had been kind enough to do that. Knuckles, Mint, Mesprit, Tails, and so on. And then there were people like Jupiter and Cyrus, who had, in their own strange ways helped her.

Perhaps it was then that the idea of forming a welcoming committee started in her overly complicated mind. Not a huge group, but one or two people ought to be perfect. Why hadn't anyone done this before?

"Oh, the dormitories. Of course," Voile nodded as she stroked a leafy 'hand' along the bottom of her chin. "Well, come with me. I'll be happy to show you." Then she paused with a small smile, "Excuse my rudeness. My name is Voile. May I have the privilege of knowing yours?" Encouragingly, she beckoned Cammy to follow her.

[And from the shadows came a multicolored ball, rolling down the hallway and towards the Gardevoir with an even larger ball following behind. But this by any means is no ordinary ball; this one can bite.

The ball of many colors soon slowed to a stop, never reaching the Pokemon as it was only a few inches away. The other ball continued to walk however, his eyes fixated on her own as each step taken in stride closes the gap between them]

Hehehehe.... looks like someone needs a friend.

It was a ball. More than one, actually. So balls then, but spheres nonetheless. Voile had not sensed it, but there was an odd little feeling that grew in her. One she couldn't quite pinpoint, but one there all the same.

Perhaps it was dread.

She looked between the two balls and stood as tall as she could, as tall as she was allowed. "I was only looking around," she replied. "I've never seen you here before. Are you a recent addition?"

You can say that.

[The larger ball ended his walk when he was within reach of the smaller one, only to hop onto it with a single jump, never slipping as he maneuvers it around the Pokemon. He began to hum a familiar tune one might know of as a child. Does the song "Ring around the Rosie" ring a bell, Volie?]

She blinked once. Then again as she watched, idly fascinated by how he chose to get around. What... exactly was he? She hadn't known anyone even remotely similar to him. And she still couldn't quite identify what she was experiencing that was so different from the normal gaggle of confusion and overly ecstatic people that were the academy's residents.

"What would you call yourself?" she asked pointedly. Her express evolved into something a little more expectant. A leafy arm drew up and folded over her, just beneath the red protruding from her chest. The other arm crossed to take hold of where the elbow must have been and she gave Marx a closer look.

An Echidna was walking the halls on that particular day. Book bag slung over his shoulder, ready to greet the new term.

However, he hadn't been expecting to greet an old friend.

So, his response to rounding a corner and hearing her talk to herself was somewhat awkward. Happily awkward, but not what one might have expected.

"Hey! It's YOU!! Voile!" A pause. "Hello!"

She almost jumped. It was close enough to a jump as far as she was concerned. She turned, looked over Knuckles, and all at once, felt her heart lighten if but a mite. A smile crossed her features and she wasted no time at all in closing the distance between them. She wrapped him up in a large hug and squeezed him tightly.

"Knuckles! You are most certainly a sight for sore eyes!"

"You can say that again! ...About you, I mean."

Oh goodness, hugs. He hugged her back, being careful to be gentle despite his enthusiasm.

"I misse--It was certainly different without you around, buddy! Where'd you go off to?"

She leaned over, close enough to bonk her forehead against his gently. "I needed to go home. I thought that perhaps, I could find myself, that perhaps I could put myself together."

Then she straightened and grew a little more serious as she brushed a leafy hand along her chin. "A certain professor, however, told me that other people have to put me together. I'm not able to do it alone. To a degree, I had to concur."

Casting a look around, she returned her eyes onto him. "I'm sorry that I was not better at keeping in touch. How are you?"

Let it be known that this girl wasn't much for hearing things when she was overcome with joy.

Whether Voile knew it was coming or not, a certain green-haired girl was running and tackling into her from behind. Hopefully it wasn't going to hurt her if it somehow caught her by surprise, but this girl didn't weigh very much, anyway.

"Vooooile!" cried the girl as she literally threw her arms around her 'big sister.' "You're back!"

The impact nearly caused Voile to fall over and land in the grass. There was no stiffening of the joints or anything like it, probably because she knew very well who it was.

She adjusted ever so carefully to wrap her arms protectively around Mint with a soft smile. "Oh, hello you. You should watch out. You might hurt yourself." Then she smoothed Mint's hair.

"I'm actually just here visiting today, but I am working on my paperwork for my return."

Her face lit up when Voile mentioned the paperwork. "So you are coming back! I can't wait to see you again!" Of course, she didn't mention that she wasn't exactly re-enrolled just yet... but that could come at a later time. She wasn't thinking about that.

Voile rose her eyebrows, and she nodded slowly. "That's sweet of you. It'll be nice to know that I'm coming back to more friends than enemies." Not that she ever had enemies in the first place. At least, none that she knew of.

Maybe Jupiter, but that was for an entirely different reason, Voile supposed.

"All the same, I'm terribly happy to be here, even for but a brief visit. Hopefully it'll turn into something extensive."
