One of those memes, where I put my Itunes on shuffle and type a phrase from the lyrics of the first 20 songs. It's supposed to be the first line, but sometimes that gives away the song entirely and I cheated. You guess the artist and song name, and post your answers as comments!

I'd heard Where Did you Sleep Last Night was originally a traditional folk tune, that Leadbelly popularised? I've got the Nirvana and Dolly Parton covers.

Leadbelly technically didn't "write" any songs, if we're getting to detail - he learned and adapted what he heard in prison. His true skill was not as a creator, but as an archivist and interpretor. See also: Ferdinand "Jelly Roll" Moreton. That guy blows my mind.
