Be careful buying domains

Someone I know recently researched some domains (by searching to see if they were available) and then went back 2 days later to discover that someone apparently bought them out from under him. This was odd, as the names he wanted were pretty damn obscure. He contacted said company (which later turned out to be a big mistake) who offered to sell
