I honestly have no idea who anyone is but Polgara!! She is awesomesauce. I always loved the way she bossed everyone else around and it worked out!! I haven't read those books for years, I should get on it again because they were great.

Piotr is from the Vorkosigan books, which start with Shards of Honor. The author is Lois McMaster Bujold, and I highly recommend them. I recommend HSB, too: snark, violence, and some really excellent characters and plot.
Ghost in the Shell is anime, but the plot is almost as developed (read, insane) as Alias', and there is a lot of heavy-duty citations-presented philosophy. (I tend to only go for anime you can sink your teeth into; WK was definitely against my better judgement.)
Um, if you read the Farseer trilogies (Robin Hobb author) be prepared for a certain amount of kicking and screaming, especially at the end of the third trilogy. I refuse to read the fourth semi-related set until it's finished and I have thoroughly braced myself with spoilers.
