Stiletto heel’s echoed against the walls as she made her way down the hall. Out of habit she adjusted the scarf around her neck, knowing she’d never be able to wear a scar like that proudly. Being dead doesn’t make you void of being vein; she was Lilah Morgan after all.
It was still a whirlwind to her how she got here - not in the metaphoric way of how her life ended up here - but how she ended up back at Wolfram and Hart. With Lindsey McDonald as her boss of all people…
The world must be ending, that’s the only explanation she could logically come up with without her head popping off.
But Lilah kept her mouth shut - some of the time - about her gripes, after all Lindsey did pull her out of whatever pain filled hell she was put in after Angel and his band of freaks signed on the dotted line. What a way to make a girl - even one that’s more evil than not - feel valued.
She had forever to deal and get over it.
Right now she had other things to deal with, such as the new vampire in town, Lenore. Lilah knew how Lindsey got around vampires, especially ones that were blonde and had a master’s degree in manipulation. Lindsey might be CEO of Hell Inc. and be bestowed with ungodly powers but he was still dumber than a first grader when it came to the opposite sex.
Who knew that Lilah Morgan of all people would be Lindsey’s common sense?
She tossed her hair off of her shoulders and rolled her eyes as she approached Lindsey’s door, soft moans could be heard through the heavy wood. It’s a good thing she had timing too; who knows what this new breed of vampires and a junked up cowboy could spawn.
Quietly she pushed open the door to Lindsey’s office, her brow quirking up at the sight before her. There was a dark haired girl half sprawled on his lap, her skirt hiked up high on her hips with Lindsey’s hands on either side, keeping her steady as his lips trailed over her skin.
She couldn’t help but watch as he gently slipped his hand up her side and his fingers dug into her hair, causing a butterfly of a memory to flutter into her mind.
Lilah cleared her throat after a moment, “You wanted to see me?”
“Don’t worry, it’s not just because you’re pretty to look at, Lilah.” Lindsey smirked without missing a hint of surprise in his voice; he turned his head away from the dark haired girl he was kissing moments ago. “Wanted you to meet our newest weapon against Angel.”
Lilah’s lips curved into a smirk. “If you remember that trip to Chicago, I already met your weapon, Lindsey,” she remarked, her eyes darting down to his snug jeans.
“A few times,” he commented.
“There’s plenty to go around…” Lenore smirked, licking her lips as she climbed off of Lindsey’s lap and bent down to pick up his CEO nameplate that had previously tumbled to the floor.
“Sad, and not a heartbeat between us.”
“Just makes the sex that much more fun.” Lenore cocked a brow at Lilah even though her comment was directed at Lindsey. “What shiny tricks can she do? Besides eating all the cherries.”
“Well…”
“Make one syllable about a Pez dispenser and I will send you to the cannery. To have a personal tour.”
Lindsey snorted as he walked over to the bar to fix Lilah a drink. “I’m your boss, Lilah. You forget that.”
“But you’re still the same squirt that is focused on bringing down Angel when you know that the only thing you’re going to get is your ass handed to you.” Lilah took the drink from his hand and took a long sip.
“It’s a nice ass.” Lenore smirked as she leaned up against the edge of the desk.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Lindsey laughed and made his way over to his seat, feeling the coolness of the leather sink through his clothes. “Lady’s, lady’s; as flattering as it is, we can’t keep talking of such things. This is a place of business.”
“Right, so you’ll tell me that you were helping her look for her contact lenses under her skirt?”
Ignoring her, Lindsey continued. “I need you to take Lenore down to inhuman resources to get her set up with an account. Unlimited.”
“You’re not worried about having another quarter like we did when we did that with Doctor Noyes? The clean up alone for the bodies well exceeded our quarter budget by more than double.”
“I’m sure Lenore will take the best precautions that that won’t happen.”
“Of course. Although my shoe budget might need a lid on it…I have a thing for them.”
Lilah’s eyes cast down and she looked over at the other woman’s boots and quietly admired her taste. She herself didn’t own anything like that, Monoloblonic’s was more her style.
“If you’ll follow me, I don’t have a lot of time to sit and snark with my boss.”
“That’s right, your appointment for that isn’t scheduled until four PM.”
Setting down her glass, Lilah headed to the door and held it open for Lenore to follow. She watched as she picked up her jacket and slung it over her shoulder, breezing past her and waiting to find out which direction they were headed.
“It’s just down the hall.” Without another word Lilah spun on her heel and all but marched down to the office. There was nothing but silence between the two women as the papers were filed; save for a few sighs from Lilah.
“It’s a pleasure doing business with you, Ms. Morgan.”
“The business you’re doing is with Lindsey.” Lilah turned and looked at Lenore pointedly. “I suggest you keep it as such, he might be the CEO but he doesn’t do too well on the personal level.”
“We live in a socially retarded world, Lilah.” Lilah caught the other woman eyeing her scarf and self-consciously she adjusted it.
“Scars are souvenirs you never lose,” Lenore commented, reaching up and pulling the scarf from Lilah’s neck. “They are badges that you survived a battle, maybe even a war.” She paused long enough for their eyes to meet. “Wear them proudly.” With that Lenore turned and left Lilah to blink at the image and sound of her boots echoing down the hall to the elevators.
For once in a long time, Lilah Morgan didn’t have a reply.
