Baby Jamie news

Jamie is doing just great. He's more awake today, eating more, and, well, pooping.

Those of you familiar with newborns know that the first few BMs are, well, disgusting. I love the little guy but I'm not fond of what came out of his butt today. Newborn poop is very much like tar and molasses mixed together. I swear I wiped for five minutes after his first BM. The stuff was stuck to his butt better than Krazy Glue to a hardhat. Thank God it doesn't smell.

Glad we got THAT out of the way.

He has a bit of jaundice today, which is not unusual for a newborn. Nick had jaundice and had to spend a couple of nights under the bright shiny lights to get rid of it. Hopefully Jamie will not need that, but we'll see.

We gave Jamie a sponge bath this morning, and surprisingly he didn't squawk too much. He hadn't had a bath yet, due to the drama after his birth. He looks better now. Later in the day we washed his hair with a bit of soap and it's looking much nicer.

We were moved to a private room today. Yay! We were in a semi-private room (two moms to a room) but unfortunately we were on the small side of the room and things were pretty cramped. We'll pay the $10/day to get our own room, thank you very much.

We had a good parade of visitors today. Wayne and Sandra and Lauren showed up after noon, and spent a few hours before going to get Nick and have some supper. I stepped out at about 5 to get some supper at the mall, print a few pictures, and do a bit of Easter shopping. When I returned I met W&S&L and Nick at the hospital entrance and we went upstairs, to find my mom already there.

I would like to state for the record that my mom DID visit Monday, and for some reason I did NOT take her picture, and that makes me a BAD son. OK, maybe not the last thing.

Chrissie's friend Erika also visited, which was great. Erika is on maternity leave from Shoppers and has a new baby girl.

The crowd dissipated by 8 and I got to hold my son again. :) He was a little cranky at times but I kept him entertained by walking around.

Chrissie was still on liquids today, although for lunch and supper she had more substantial food like ice cream and cream soup. They permitted her to have toast tonight, which was apparently the BEST food EVER. I guess when you've had nothing substantial since 11:55 Sunday night, toast is awesome.

I left at about 10:20 and I'll be back at 10 or sooner tomorrow morning. I plan on spending most of the afternoon with Nick.

Look at my nice new teeth!

Apparently the boys had a snooze.

And then Jamie had a snooze.

Sandra had her turn.

Chrissie and her liquid lunch. Yum.

You can never have enough sleeping baby photos.

SEE! My MOM holding JAMIE!
