Clutching his forearm in a futile attempt to ease the burning sensation, a black-robed man staggered to the unfamiliar entrance. This was to be his little secret detour before Apparating to his final destination.
After a few knocks, a slender figure answered the door. Unlike the exterior of the building, the young man standing in front of him was well acquainted.
His older sibling stood motionless as Regulus lowered his black hood revealing his face. Long, flowing locks framed the delicate features Sirius had called angelic. He thought he heard Sirius gasp.
Catching the dim light pouring out from inside, Regulus's skin seemed many shades paler and his features, gaunter. For a moment, he was Sirius's baby brother in that summertime when they first kissed again. Lost and scared. Fragile and defenseless. Tentatively, Sirius reached out for Regulus only to withdraw his hand as though scalded by hot liquid. The dull ache throbbing inside him pulled him out of his short-lived memory.
No words came out. The awkward silence stretched out uncomfortably. Sirius wetted his lips. A sign of his brother's nervousness. Regulus searched for the right words to say.
But a sudden realisation dawned on Regulus. Next they meet, it would be on the battle field at the wrong end of their wands.
Suddenly words lost their meaning. Regulus smiled sadly before he turned to leave without so much as a whisper. Sirius stepped out. To stop him? To hit him? He'd never know.
Regulus glanced back over his shoulder.
Their eyes met.
Everything words failed to express was there.
Silently, Regulus vanished into the darkness.

AN: I reckon Sirius can be a really jealous lover when it comes to his baby brother, but then again, it's likely both would be equally possessive. It runs in the family after all :P
