Last Quarter at UCLA

I think the only times I update this thing are the times I'm angry enough with the world to listen to Saves the Day. I love them.

Today is the third day of my last quarter at UCLA, and that means that I've been to all the classes at least once.

English 163, Later Victorian Poetry and Prose: This one is in a big room with a lot of people I know. The professor, Prof. Kolb, is makes up for not always having interesting things to say by yelling a lot, mostly when he is reading the poems of the great Robert Browning. At least it keeps the narcoleptic kid that always seems to sit in front of me awake, so I don't have to watch him play the head bobbing game as he catches himself about to fall asleep. Our professor also explained to us we get a break in the middle of class because he has to pee often. The TA for the class, Devine, is probably the quirkiest person I've ever met inside the English department, except maybe my TA for 4W. It's hard to describe, but it makes the section a relaxing finish to a 6 hour day.

English 143, Milton: Let's start with the fact I HATE Milton. I HATE Milton. That said, this class is going to be cool because the professor works really hard to make stuff this boring seem interesting, and she does her job well. The TA, Marx (not the father of communism), is pretty cool too. I think she TAed a section for us in 10A when our TA (who is also TAing Milton) was out of town.

English 141B, Chaucer's other works: As much degree to which I dislike Milton is the degree to which I like Chaucer. He's a genius. I don't know much about this class though. Our prof is in a wheelchair, which means I am going to have to have to start sitting in front of the classroom, so I can see him when he talks. I don't care if this class mega-sucks, I just want to study Chaucer one more time.

Korean 50, Korean Civilization: Well, every quarter has one of these...this class is going to be awful. Why? For starters, there are a billion people in the class and attendance is required. Most of them are Korean, it seems, which means they are there for the easy A. With that many people in the class, and with the poor air conditioning in MS building, the class feels as though it's 100 degrees. Because the people think it's an easy A, they talk a lot and make jokes the whole time. I would join them, but the prof barely speaks loud and legible enough, I can't hear a word he says when they are being jerks. That said, my only other experience with a Korean professor of the old country tells me that this class is going to be a lot harder than I need a GE class to be. Ugh. Despite the fact he puts his lecture notes online, I can't understand a word he says, and all the people in the class turn the room into a sauna, I still have to be there every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for exactly one hour and fifteen minutes. Resent that.

Other than that, I really don't feel like being a social being. I don't want to talk to people, I don't want to sit down and tell my innermost thoughts, and I don't want to be open and vulnerable. Just writing that is enough for me for right now, and so this will be my avenue to all the people who try and call me while my phone sits on my desk turned off. Hopefully tomorrow I'll wake up and remember I'm alive. Until then, would somebody please remind me how to do livejournal cuts again so people don't have to read all that boring crap about my schedule? Thanks.
