Thoughts about Silence in the Library

So I just watched the much anticipated, much-spoiled and already debated first part of the Moffat two-parter. Interesting ...

Where should I start? I think I would have enjoyed this episode more if I hadn't spoiled myself before hand, but there were still things I enjoyed and things I really didn't.

The "Enjoyed" column:
-The adventure in general. I'm very intrigued to see how the library became invested, if the little girl is somehow the "brain" of the computer, how she got that way, etc.

-I'm also very intrigued about River Song (even though I still want to gag over the name). I like seeing the Doctor somewhat flummoxed when he's faced with The Book and "spoilers" about his life. As hard as he tends to be on others, it's nice to see that he's tempted, too.

-Alex Kingston in general. I adored her in ER and for the most part liked her here.

-I really, really loved the fact that when River realized Donna was Donna, she quite obviously knew who Donna was and in a good way. She almost looked a bit awed. So whatever happens to Donna (sob) the Doctor isn't going to just put it aside and never talk about it again.

-The TARDIS Diary/Spoiler Book. Wonder what shop they found that in. *g*

The "Didn't Enjoy" column:

-I'm sorry, I do NOT buy it that if River was/is as intimate with the Doctor as she implies that she just swans in and starts spilling the beans. If he's younger than she's ever seen him before, wouldn't that give her a bit of pause? And just leaving the The Book lying around? No way. She would seriously know better.

-The way the Doctor talks down to and dismisses Donna. I have to agree that Moffat did the same thing to Rose in GifF and I don't like the pattern. She should have belted him when he told he that he'd told her a clever lie to shut her up. Bastard. I do NOT like the Doctor when he's that nastily dimissive of his friends/companions in a situation like that where there was really no need. For heaven's sake, Donna pretty much was standing back out of the way since she kicked the door open, so why did he need to tell her to shut up? And that wasn't the only time. Did NOT like that at all.

-Further confirmation that Donna is doomed. :(

As far as next week, I am very intrigued to find out what happened to Donna (and I HOPE the Doctor feels like a bit of a shit for doing it to her, since he obviously acted in haste) and to see how the Doctor fixes the problem with the library.

Also, as for the speculation on who River might be? Personally, I don't think she's anybody we know. I think it's just Moffat's way of saying that the Doctor is going to have a future beyond Rose/Marth/Donna and what we've known till now (in New Who).
