What do YOU think? Enquiring minds want to know.

Yet another random post. Been working most of the night and so I paused to glance at my flist, part of which includes a Twilight comm. So yeah, I've really enjoyed the series. Picked it up two months ago because Golden Child wanted to read it and I figured it might be a good idea to preview a teenage vampire love story. As much as I enjoy good ( Read more... )

You know, my problems with the Twilight books (and keep in mind, I haven't been able to make it all the way through a single one because the character descriptions were just way overdone to me) have more to do with the author's inability to write/plot up to a standard that would hold my attention than her desire to give her characters a happy ending. (And also, I found it intensely creepy how her character seemed to live only for the boys and let them do all sorts of unsettling things to her--stalking, borderline sexual assault--because they loved her ( ... )

I think the biggest complaint I've seen with the latest book is not necessarily the ending itself, but how they got there and the overall message it delivers. Let's just say the empowerment issues are a real hotspot for long-time fans of this series.

I'm all for a happy ending. Love them in fact. However, I think they need to be backed and explained by a solid preceeding arc that doesn't compromise either characters, plotline and world building. From what I've seen in the reactions to BD, Meyer failed and failed big time on all fronts with her wrap-up.

I don't have a problem with the Twilight Series. Are they great literature? No. Are they horrible? No again. If you want to read horrible, you should read some of the self-published crap that authors pitch to me.

My complaint with Breaking Dawn isn't the ending, it's that it was too easy to get there. No tension. No sitting on the edge of my seat wondering if there was going to be a happy ending. The ending was never in doubt; it was a foregone conclusion.

I would have loved more Volturi. I would have loved more of the other vampire clans, especially the Romanians. They were a riot!

The pregnancy theme reminded me of the gym teacher in Mean Girls: "If you have sex, you will get pregnant the first time you do it, and die."

All in all, I found the series entertaining. The fourth book less so than the other three, but still readable.

Twilight is nothing but cracky fan fic, not some great work of literature. I enjoy the books, or at least the first three novels, greatly.

But the fandom is bugnuts crazy. I've only found one website/forum that I've enjoyed reading and participating in. All of the lj communities I've found are full of crap and negativity.

My problems with Twilight go so much deeper than just the ending, but a happy ending in itself is not a bad thing. I love a good ending. There are lots of classics out there with happy endings.

Twlight, specifically? malaleen said exactly what I've been saying along with some of my friends... it's crackfic. ;)
