Er, to whoever it is living in the rooms near mine, I'm sorry about the...uh, commotion earlier today. I was looking around the stove and, well, I don't know a thing about these bloody muggle contraptions and something...er, exploded. Very sorry. So...if you heard a loud noise, well, yes, sorry.

[Private to Simon]Well, that was unpleasant, but it' ( Read more... )

The third eye rises now, to its highest point. Hanging in the air like a beating sun.

Do you think you can escape a sun that high, Mr. Pettigrew?

It is at this point you will make your decision, Mr. Pettigrew.

Do you kill the past, and rebirth the self?

Or will you go deep into the folds of what is comfortable and familiar to you?

There is no Must in the world. Every decision is ours to make, with rewards and consequences for all of them.

The third eye works like a Chameleon's - it sees in every direction.

I--There's no point in dwelling on the past. I'm moving on. I've cut my ties or had them cut for me. This is a fresh start. There. Is that what you wanted me to say?

What sort of problem?

I'm sure you noticed my silver hand? Well, that was a "gift" from my former master, in replacement of a hand I lost in his service. However, I didn't realize at the time that it was charmed. The moment it sensed any hesitancy or disloyalty to the man, it was set to attack me. Before I came here, I hesitated when ordered to kill a young boy and it turned on me and strangled me to death.

I don't feel like repeating the experience, and I don't know if the charm is still there or was finished once I had first died, and I don't want to risk it. Alphonse has agreed to try and fashion me another hand. But first I'd need to remove this one, of course, and I think your expertise would be helpful in this matter. If it's not too much trouble, of course.

That's...

It's no trouble. Something like that certainly needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. It all depends on how your artificial hand is attached...I'll need to examine it in person, and the sooner the better I think.

As soon as possible is good, whenever you have the time to examine it is fine with me. It'll certainly be nice to not have to do it myself this time. I'll ask Alphonse when he would be able to create the replacement.

...Exploded? Are you hurt?

No, no, I'm fine. I'm used to explosions really...and I'm sure they'll grow back soon enough.

There are stoves in the apartment buildings? How I long for something not cooked over a camp fire.

They don't actually work. They're apparently powered by gas or, what's it called, elek-tris-ity, neither of which work. If there was a decent wood or magic stove around perhaps you'd have more of a chance for a decent meal.

Hmph. That's so very unfortunate. If I had my powers, I could fix the lack of electricity in a heartbeat.

If you ever have your powers returned, I'll look you up then. Though I don't really put much stock in the stuff.

You speak as if magic and machinery cannot be reconciled.

Has it ever occurred to you, in your wildest dreams, that the two fit each other quite nicely?

I haven't ever cared enough to think about it, much less dream about it.
