one of my biggest fears is to work a 9-5 job, come home and watch tv and have that be the end of things.

I never could get into the whole socialism thing, takes too much away from self reliance. I've got to admit my first exposure to Anarcho-syndicalism was with that wikkipedia link. I'm far too into the Ayn Rand, greed is good,I love capatalism thing. I also do not believe in equality, I don not for a second believe that all men are created equal, I do believe in equal protection under the law, but that is about as far as it goes. I am also not a supporter of a true democracy, as in its purest, most natrul form, democracy is nothing short of mob mentality, and most people lack the capacity to make informed, rational decisions. I believe strongly in the motos "that goverment which governs least, governs best" and "My right to swing my fist ends at the tip of someone else nose" I too hope to retain my ideology for the rest of my life, and also relate to the feeling of an outsider because of my beliefes, many of my friends out here seem to share similar beliefs as you, and I feel like I am almost always surrounded by socialist ( ... )

I also forgot to mention that I am a 9-5'er, working in middle management at a global internet company. On the bright side, it is a porn company.

this is a very strange business indeed, here I am sales manager of a multimillion dollar company with a mohawk and piercings, my boss is a signed musician, one department head is a tranny and our advertising accountant is a drag queen fetish performer.

I totally smell what you are stepping in. I am so out of the loop when it comes to what is going on in the mainstream world. People ask me what television shows I watch like its the only thing in the world that they have to define themselves by and when I tell them I haven't really watched television in over five years they look at me like I fell off the fucking moon. People hate it when you rock their little boat of safety, security and self awareness. People don't like it when they have to think outside of the cultural expectations they have locked themselves into. I don't feel at home in "my" generation. I don't recognize anything remotely similar to myself in people my own age. I don't understand. I just don't. And the more I educate myself and the more I learn about the things that I care about, the further I put myself from the rest of the world. But you know what? I don't care. It feels better to be over informed on obscure knowledge that has no affect on mainstream America than to live my life in ignorance and pop

i don't think it has as much to do with our generation as it does our society, because older people act the same way.
it's kinda weird how everyone doens't know that a world exists outside of television, like say you mention an obscure movie, and they're like "how do you find out about this stuff?!"

I think you're right about it being society. But I think "our" generation is what happens after so many years of societal apathy. At least with people that are older they typically have a little more depth, but not often and not much.

But yeah, I love it when that happens to. And I always just look at them and say "I dunno. I guess I'm just smarter than you." But I'm kind of a bitch.
