Asdf. I don't completely lose my sensibilities often, but if there's absolutely nothing else I am allowed to hate so fervently and with such a passion, it's pure bigotry

Feminists will bring about their own destruction, if and when we have full legal and political and social equality in the eyes of society. But as of current, we still don't; so yes, we will petition until we get what we want, thank you very much.
That's all well and good, but you missed the point. I apologize if the African American example didn't make sense, so I'll modify it into terms of feminism:
I'm all for promoting women's rights up until the point where women get identical treatment and rights to that of men. However, when women begin demanding that I hold open doors for them, watch my language around them, treat them with any more chivalry than I would deal to a guy, I no longer agree. Besides that, saying things like "I hate all men, every one of them is stupid" is no less an irrational generalization than saying the same of women. Allowing things to be said like that example by extremists is promoting the xenophobia and imbalance that these groups are trying to get rid of, and I do not appreciate or condone derogatory and biased statements like the one mentioned.
1.) This is the issue. When it's dismissed as "something the group just says", that seems to condone it and its usage in the public forum. And if you really are shooting for equality, promoting group distinction is eroding from the work you've already accomplished, not aiding it.
2.) You stepped on a land mine. There aren't too many of them, but you hit one of them.

There, hopefully that's more clear.
