May I just say that the wide-spread use of GOP as a stand-in for the Republicans really bothers me. It means Grand Ol' Party. It's use isn't really unweighted, media. please just call them the reps and the dems. It makes more sense and doesn't drill us with the fact that the republicans are grand. >_

The Democrats could just start calling themselves the Awesome New Party.

Personally, I'm in favor of just calling them Elephants and Donkeys, and making all the other parties pick animals.

GOP also tells us that Republicans are old.

But it isn't without bias. Traditions are not always the best way to do things, especially where language is concerned. See: most racial epithets.
