I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews about The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber. It's my next one. It's about a 19 year old, nineteenth century prodstitute in London - and her climb to the top of society. A couple of people said it was "weird to read" because the author kind of writes it as though he were talking to the reader, but my mom couldn't put it down.
