001 [location: new scape] - bumming yourself downtown

Nov 18, 2009 04:00

Normally, it wasn’t a big thing for a young woman to wake up in her own bed. Generally, it was the kind of thing that most young women expected of a Tuesday morning. But Buffy wasn’t like most young women and she certainly wasn’t normal, all despite her best efforts. For Buffy, waking up in her own bed, in her own house, gave serious cause for a ( Read more... )

Cuddy as used to waking up at inopportune times, however not feeling as though she had woken up and finding herself stood in the middle of town dressed in what she'd worn the previous day was odd. She could remember coming home and changing for bed. She could remember laying down to sleep yet this felt real, she felt so awake that it didn't seem like this was a dream. Wherever Cuddy happened to now be was set out like any regular town, though not one that she was familiar with - not that she travelled far. And she didn't plan on staying either.

If she was going to be wandering the streets in the early evening, Buffy may as well have been patrolling. It was how she had begun to dissect the streets and lanes in her mind as if gridding them for a sweep. But so far? Things seemed quiet. Of course, the sun hadn't fully sank beneath the horizon yet. She wasn't really looking for vamps but more like the signs of vamp activity. Windows with garbage bags over them, abandoned personal things, that tingly feeling when one was near.

Instead, however, Buffy simply found a woman. And one that looked almost as confused as herself, for that matter. With a self-possession and confidence that she had gotten used to feeling even in this alien place, Buffy approached.

"Uhm, excuse me?"

Cuddy looked up, smoothing her skirt down by habit as the young woman approached her. She looked a little confused but more comfortable with this place than what she would expect: either she had been here longer and she was confused to see Cuddy or she'd been in situations similar, though neither option was particularly pleasurable.

"Yes?" Cuddy had been put off her game by this situation, not that she usually had one. Either way she would like to return home as quickly as possible.

Buffy wasn't entirely sure how to tackle this subject. After all, it's not every day that you try to ask people whether they'd just popped in this morning and her hesitation showed plainly upon her face. She tapped the side of her hand thrice against her chin and tried to find some words that didn't sounds entirely like they belonged to a crazy person.

"Do you...know anything about this place? I'm kinda new in town and I'm looking for a little local info. Maps, senators, good watering holes. You know, the basic stuff."

The sun was up when Selene had arrived and now it was almost set. It would take some getting used, being able to be out in sunlight but it wasn't the largest the adjustment that Selene would have to make. This place, what is was... it would be different but for now a perfect place to hide. All that she wished for was that Michael was here with her too.

The young girl was easy to spot, most people were and she knew that look - she was hunting. Selene knew that look because it was one that she had often: she might know the truth about how she came to be a vampire and the real knowledge of the coven but that didn't take away everything that she'd felt for the past almost two centuries. Selene didn't think that anything could.

"Lost something?" She let her voice carry across the quiet, open space. Selene doubted that she had, other than her home, but that didn't change her question. The young woman was looking for something, something that Selene doubted she would find. Though little did she know that the woman already had.

There was a chill determined to run down her spine. Buffy looked up at the sound of a voice and took only a moment to spot the dark-haired woman across from her. The Slayer was quick to make character judgments and she never felt good about so much black. Would it hurt the woman to throw a splash of colour in there?

"No...all of my me is present and accounted for." Buffy crossed her arms over her chest and stepped towards the other. Not quickly nor eagerly, but with the tense nonchalance that one should take to an unidentified, potential threat.

"Why? Are things prone to getting lost, here?"

"Either you're hunting or desperately looking for something." The concept was very close to being the same thing, though one had the intent to kill and the other was just a desperate need to find something. In a sense one could be thought up from the other.

"I don't know about desperately, but I am looking." Her voice cut across the cold air with its own chilled edge. "For answers, mostly. What this place is, where it is, why I'm here."

Buffy continued her slow swagger across the street. "I'm not really the biggest fan of unanswered questions."

SORRY I COULDN't GET THIS IN LAST NIGHT >.o icanhaslogic November 18 2009, 22:45:26 UTC
It felt…strange to be out of uniform. He had grown unaccustomed, it seemed, to civilian clothing, and the “feeling” that he could only call discomfort (though the word wasn’t quite correct. Self-consciousness, perhaps?) was not alleviated in any way by being in this familiar-yet-not place wearing entirely unfamiliar clothes. The only consolation, really, was that he was just slightly less than conspicuous- he would probably be less so once he had familiarized himself with the terrain, the city, etc.- and he earned fewer awkward stares and confused looks, although, those who paused long enough to take a second glance still gave him that awkward expression that clearly stated that he didn’t belong.

All of that was well enough with him- he didn’t belong. And he never really would. He didn’t really want to belong here. Belonging here meant leaving the crew of the Enterprise behind, and that was something that he simply could not do. The last place he had where he really belonged- the only place he had ever really belonged- was on ( ... )

And yet, startled she was. Buffy had been so consumed by her search for any symptoms of mystical interference, that she had stopped paying attention to her fellow pedestrians. It wasn't until the man spoke that she jerked her line of sight immediately upwards to meet his. With barely time to think, she blurted out teh first uncomfortably lame quip that sprung to mind.

"Not anymore, considering you appear to have found me." It didn't make any sense. Of course it didn't. How could her quipping be expected to reach its potential when there was clearly an issue at hand. This place--this whole place--was so very wrong and despite the fact that her Slayer senses were thrumming and screaming that fact to her, Buffy couldn't figure out why.

She grimaced and shook her head. "Ah--sorry. I--" she broke off, dragging a palm across her face and starting again. "Can I help you at all?"

Her first response earned a raised eyebrow- it had sounded so very much like something the captain would have said that the reaction was almost instinctual. He chose not to comment on that, instead focusing on the second- the question.

"I do not believe so, unless you are aware of a reason that certain of us seem to have been brought here against our will." It was entirely possible that someone knew- maybe even she did, as unlikely as it seemed. Still, it was not illogical to seek the information wherever he thought he might find it.

But then, after a short pause, he continued. "My apologies. I did not intend to startle you."

She was about to refute that she was ever startled, but thought better of it. She had clearly been the epitome of startled and getting into a petty argument about it wouldn't bring her any closer to finding out what was up with this wacky town. Except, apparently, neither would this guy. This guy who spoke like he belonged in some kind of library. Shudder.

"Colour me clueless--which is probably some uncomfortable shade of green. That's how I feel, anyway." Buffy crossed her arms loosely across her chest. "You're stranded, too?"
