Characters: Severus Snape, Lily Evans
Notes: I don't own it, kid. If I did, there would be a lot more of James and Lily.
"I don't know what they're always going on about."
Severus looks over at her, unsure of exactly what she's talking about. It seems like she has been
considering something in her head while they sat in silence. He pokes her leg with his shoe and
makes her turn to look up at him from her position. "What're you thinking about, Lily?"
Lily shrugs, sitting up and scooting back to sit next to him. "Them," she answers cryptically and
makes a small gesture to the small group of girls under a large tree. They seem to be gossiping
and laughing, their usual activities. No, Lily never really likes those kinds of forms of
entertainment, but surely she has seen them do it all before? It's not as if any of this is new.
"Come again?" he asks and frowns at the group.
Lily rolls her eyes. "Do you ever listen, Sev? All they talk about, Sev. Boys. Kissing." She wrinkles
her nose at the last word. She lays back in the grass and puts a hand over her eyes to guard
them from the sun. "What's the big deal?"
Severus has never pretended to be the expert on these kinds of things. His best friend is a
teenage girl, though, and a pretty one at that, so she's bond to be curious sometime. Just
because she prefers him to gossiping Ravenclaws doesn't mean she isn't still one of them,
somewhere in that mind of hers, anyway. He's not about to pretend that he knows all of the
details now. He shrugs and lays back as well. Not answering is probably the best thing to do in this
case.
Lily continues on, almost as if she never stopped to hear an opinion or word from him. "It's just
kissing, you know? I don't know why they're always talking about it."
He feels slightly uncomfortable in this discussion. If they could call it that. Lily seems to be doing all
the talking, and he doesn't say anything.
Lily turns to him and takes her hand away since she is now facing away from the sun. "I want to
get it over with," she says suddenly, and he is confused. What does this have to do with anything?
Did he miss something in basic human communication? He thinks that maybe that is why people
find him so strange. Maybe something really is wrong with the way he understands things.
He just lays there for a minute or maybe an hour and finally turns. "What're you talking about,
Lily?" he asks finally.
She rolls her eyes again. "Just kiss me," she answers more simply. "We'll both know then. What
all the fuss is about, I mean. And get it out of the way." She smiles as if she knows something he
doesn't.
Lily is always bloody impossible, he reminds himself. That's why she's talking like this. "What?" he
repeats and pulls away slightly.
A little frown line appears on her forehead. "C'mon, Sev, I can't be that repulsive."
He just stays there and doesn't will himself to move. No, he wouldn't call her repulsive in the least.
What the hell happened to the normal world? He thinks that he wants that back. At least he
understands that a little.
Lily rolls her eyes for the third time and leans in toward him. Her lips brush against his, and it's
over just as quickly as this whole thing started. He doesn't really react other than staying frozen
in his place. She shrugs again and shoots him another smile.
He doesn't really want to know what she decided about this kissing thing, so he doesn't ask.
