there's a lot in this entry that i've been musing about for quite some time but have never figured out exactly how to voice...

also,
(1) rare dictionaries are definitely the way to impress a date

I hate to disappoint you, but I really can't find anything I really disagree with you about in here. I even prefer cake to pie, so I can't even argue about the superiority of pie. You're going to have to come up with some neo-nazi conservative views or something and then maybe we can throw down in political warfare. :P

Good rant. :)

Regarding pie, were you at Furman when they had the CLP called "One Black Man Infiltrates the KKK?" It was one of the most interesting experiences I had in college (and there were a fair few good contenders) because it actually made me rethink and change some of my own ideas. The speaker, whose name escapes me, rather than railing against the Klan, decided to make friends with some of them. Once they met him and befriended him, they realized that their assumptions and prejudices about his race didn't work anymore. He actually had some robes that one guy had given him, after he left the Klan. Maybe this isn't really a very applicable story... but it's what the pie metaphor made me think of. And it's the kind of diplomacy and outreach that we're all going to have to get better at, if we want the next 4 years to be better than the last 8.

I tried to be really nice today to the people I knew voted Republican.
