It felt like my heart had stopped when the heart monitor gave a continuous, monotone beep. Haruka gave a choked sob as she watched the life of her one week old son slip away. The other baby in her arms cried loudly; maybe because he sensed the death of his twin brother. I pulled the two into my arms, tears streaming down my face. The doctor and nurse gave us sympathetic looks before leaving the room to give us privacy and solitude in the last moments with our son.

Six years, I thought. Six years, and I’m finally done! My heart soared at my success. The six years spent away from my family, away from Haruka and Netto were worth it. I finally finished my research, and have successfully graphed his soul into a net navi’s body, something no one thought could’ve been done before. Of course, it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, but it was worth it.

“Haruka!”
She turned around and gave a gasp. She ran into my arms. I missed her, I truly did, but nothing could hamper the excitement I felt. “Haruka! I did it!”
I think she almost fainted when she heard the news. We will have our other son back, and Netto will have his brother back.
We will have Saito back.

A/N: Hikari Saito is Netto’s twin brother that died shortly after birth of HBD, a heart condition with no known cure. Their father had graphed Saito’s soul into a navi’s body just in time for Netto’s tenth -I think- birthday, and had given him to Netto as a birthday present. I believe that Yuichiro had started this whole idea for his project in graphing a soul into a net navi’s body during the week when Saito had been alive. He might have somehow saved Saito’s soul, then spent four years collecting data and researching, because he could not afford to do anything to Saito’s soul until he is absolutely sure that it wouldn’t destroy his soul. After all the theoretical stuff, he then started to modify whatever net navi body it was to be compatible with Saito’s soul. Something like that. This one came out different than what I had in mind, but I hope you still liked it.
