1. The comments of New Eating Disorder Reality Show Is Misguided, Disingenuous, And On E! (god, that's a long title) yielded this gem:
'This feels like a tiny little picture of our distopian health care future. The super rich can afford real care. The rest of us have to go on TV shows to receive treatment.'Seriously, someone needs to write ( Read more... )

1.) It kind of reminds me of the episode of Doctor Who, in which Station 5 was basically a multilevel TV set, and nobody on said station could lift a finger without footage of it turning up on people's tellys.
And in a way, it was a little dystopic. I could see that being out future. D:

3.) Oh, Twitter. I write my stupid anger poetry there, and stalk Stephen Fry.
...IS there Twitter etiquette? I guess I should probably learn me some. XD;;

1) I remember that one. Admittedly, I'd probably be more willing to watch Big Brother if housemates really were disintegrated, but that's not very nice.

3) Well, there's this etiquette guide. Normally I just blunder my way through social media, but I feel like I'm the last person to make a twitter account and I have catching up to do. I wish I'd done it earlier, because it's kind of novel.

1.) I've never seen Big Brother, but I'd probably start if they offed people that way, so don't feel too badly. XD

3.) Ah HA. There is a list indeed! I'll have to read that. I'm sure that I've already broken some rules.
And I'm sure you're not the LAST person on Twitter. There's some man out in the Amazon jungles who's living an horrifically isolated life, and I'm sure he'll never even know that 'Twitter' is no longer a type of avian vocalization. Take comfort. XD

Random Note: I feel like I need to recommend Wodehouse to the planet. Have you read any? I'm just starting in on the Jeeves & Wooster lit. and keep foisting it upon other people. *foist foist*

3) I sort of envy that man.

I've not read any Wodehouse, but I ought to, once I've cleared my existing backlog of stuff I need to read.

1. Shows like that make me want to become a hermit in the mountains. However! That would be a fantastic novel.

A hermitage does pretty good deal these days. All the wildlife you can eat, and you never have to brush your hair.

Seriously, someone needs to write dystopian sci-fi about that, if they haven't already.

Reminds me of the plot to "Thinner than Thou" a little bit. Mind you, I haven't read the novel so I can't say it's good or bad or even full of fail (yet.) The plot sounds like the kind only a really talented, really aware writer could handle. If it falls to someone else, I can imagine too much of the fail. So I'm more than a little apprehensive of picking it up.

I like Huge but I'm still holding my breath. I like Will and it would kill me to see if the show tries to show Will her 'wrong ways' at viewing the world and learn to "love herself... by losing weight!"

Meanwhile, I really respect the show for giving some visibility to asexuals, especially the females ones since those especially are extremely scarce in the media.

Hm. I might have a look at Thinner Than Thou, now.

Yeah, the show has been excellent so far, but I'm so bitter and cynical thse days that nothing would surprise me.

I like how it presents a good variety of characters with different attitudes to weight loss, so weight loss isn't portrayed as inherently good or bad in itself. I'd probably feel more reassured if there was a female character other than Will who was actually (shock horror!) okay with being fat, though. (Even though, y'know, the series is set in a weight loss camp. Erm.) Still, the show has been pretty good at showing how the stigma of being fat can be much nastier than the physical side of being fat.

And yeah, I did a little cheer when I saw that Poppy was asexual because holy shit, I think that's the first time I've ever seen a character identify as asexual anywhere
