Mercy versus Severity

Jul 17, 2008 11:03

I had intended this to be my public blog to discuss my thoughts and views on the Great Work. The problem with this is that I do a lot of deeply intense, personal work and I not only don't publicize that, but it goes into select filters on my sol_et_lunaAt long last, I have some commentary that could (and should) be made public ( Read more... )

One of the many reasons I've escaped from such communities. Actually, what you describe about the fluff bunnies also exists in the yogic world, which is why I've spent more time with those types lately. They're just nicer! And typically less delusional, too.

There are problems in the yoga world too, but so far its quite a difference from the Thelemic world. Personally, I don't have time for the kid stuff anymore.

Yup you pretty much summed it up. Go where the good energy is and screw those who think that they're too "intelligent and superior" for such crap.

Agreed on the less delusional.

(pathetic, but true, I feel triumphant for figuring this out!)
Once you realize that you were playing by someone elses rules, you can change the way you play. Being warm and cuddly and bunny-like, myself, all I can say is: welcome back. And, don't forget, bunnies have other attributes that are better left for the adults only pages. :)

I was drawn to this post because mercy and severity are two of the sephira I need to be working on in this life; I tend to swing wildly between the two extremes, especially with myself, whereas I am more tolerant/merciful of others' faults and idiosyncrasies.

But I got something more out of it, something different actually. I have long worried that getting involved with a "serious" order would force me to sublimate the Loki/Pan portion of myself, and I don't wanna!

I also worry that those who take their magick "seriously" don't understand what I believe to be an important part of my own Great Work. To enjoy myself, and to bring pleasure, laughter and amusement to my friends and loved ones.

(Also, I would worry about laughing out loud at some of the extreme "costumes" some find it necessary to wear...and seriously: that would be disrespectful to THEIR beliefs. Not for me, but if it aids them in achieving the focus they need for their own magick, more power to them!

I totally forgot I wrote this post, and it was a huge part of why I wound up taking a lengthy hiatus from both the ceremonial magick communities and my religious community.

People are so afraid of being wrong they go overboard in taking themselves too seriously. I'll be the first to say I do my fair share of mockery online, and there are times when I wonder...at one point am I doing it for a laugh so we don't take ourselves too seriously, and at one point am I becoming an intolerant bully?

When you are picking on those weaker than you, you are being an intolerant bully.
(Of course, when you're almighty like I am, that doesn't leave many folks to pick on!)

When your intent is mean-spirited, you are being an intolerant bully.

However, if you put a sideways smiley face next to your mean-spirited response, it negates it (Liber XYZ, 1-93) :)
