Your iPod will work with either a Mac or a PC. I'm going to go with a Mac for my next computer, cause I'm becoming more and more convinced that they are way cooler.
Here are some pros and cons: Mac pros: Macs have kick ass image, video, and other stuff editing programs, so if you're into any of that, Macs are awesome. Also, they're better about not crashing as much, and are better at recovering lost files. Plus, Apple is really good about tech support, replacing parts, etc. Mac cons: Some types of files (especially word processing) don't translate nicely to Windows, so if you ever need to move them to a PC (to print, edit, etc) you will run into problems. You can, however, get Microsoft Word for Macs. Also, the user interface is (duh) different, so it'll take you a little bit to get really used to the differences from your PC. And I think they're a little more expensive (I'm not sure on the comparisions there.
I think that about sums it up. I'm quite fond of Macs, myself, but it's really up to you :)
Macs are typically better for school (more reliable, MUCH more resistant to viruses). Plus, they look f--king AWESOME. As for the word processing files, as long as you save files as a .txt or .doc file, they'll translate perfectly from one platform to the other. As far as I'm concerned, the only con for the Mac is price.
