I got my first commission to write a poem.

Woohoo!

I also wrote this poem about Will last night. He's my geeky friend who always likes really shallow girls, so I wrote it from the angel of a geeky girl who he never notices. Comments appreciated.

Geek

Your superhuman eyes of steely blue
Are always looking the opposite way.
To shallow girls, so unlike you,
All the wrong girls, with so little to say.
Who don't read comics, or fantasy or sci-fi,
Who don't get your bad jokes,
Who roll their eyes and sigh.
Bemused by your adorable stammering nerves
As you flushingly stutter 'Hi'.
You wear contacts when your electric eyes
Are so perfectly framed by nerdy glasses.
You tame your messy hair.
You're someone else with them, when I'm not there;
They don't see the guy I know
And love, more as each day passes.

Me? I'm nobody, just your geeky friend.
You don't stutter around me;
I laugh at your jokes, and your laugh surrounds me.
I love you in glasses. Love your curly hair.
I walk with you to the comic book shop,
Hoping against hope that we'll never get there.

But you'll never know.
While you're looking at them over my shoulder
I wish you'd look at the girl in glasses,
The girl who wants to be just a bit bolder.
The girl you always greet with 'Hey, kid'.

The good guy gets the girl.
What you'll never know is you already did.
