So as some of you may have noticed, LJ was down yesterday. This isn't that big of a deal. Really, it's not. To those idiots who are whining that they deserve compensation, seriously, stop and think about priorities. You want compensation for a service that you use to blog. BLOG. While the folks at livejournal are being nice and working on ways to ( Read more... )

I agree with you, however as a service that I pay for I am bothered when it is non-functional. This was due to a power outage which I categorize as "act of god" and can not be fought against. If it is due to LJ pushing new code on the system and it being buggy and causing major crashing (like Netflix did yesterday) I do feel that an extension of my account payment should occur. LJ has done this in the past for their fuck ups.

Eh. While I understand that it's frustrating when you pay for something and it doesn't work perfectly, 7 hours isn't really enough to warrant compensation even if it IS from buggy new code. If this were my bank then sure maybe... But it's my blog service.

Our opinions will just have to differ on this one. If I pay for a service, I expect it to meet the requirements I expect it to. I see no difference between a bank web site and my blog service.

What if I have my portfolio up online and all images are hosted by LJ (we don't need to argue the merits of an online biz should have a backup ready to go.) If I lost business yesterday because of the down time, is that ok?

If someone is silly enough to use LJ in their business dealings then they kind of deserve what they get. If the site is down for more than 24 hours, then I kind of understand wanting compensation but 7 hours is just a bit ridiculous.

I've had a free LJ account since 2003 and just really like having an online journal I don't have to pay for. Yeah, like I'm gonna piss and moan because there was a power outage affecting their database. You're right. We all use this to record our thoughts and daily happenings. Wanting compensation is ridiculous. No one gets a rebate when their electricity goes out for a few hours. Sheesh.

The only time I've ever gotten compensation for when the power or phone went out was when it was over 12 hours and even then, only because I called.

actually, compensation for loss of services (electric, water, etc) when applicable (i.e. not act of god) is fairly common. Hell, I get compensation on my cable bill all the time for lost services.

It's not fairly common for everyone. Most of the time, people I know have had to call to get it taken off the bill and honestly, it's usually not worth the hassle to do that.

I have a Plus Account, so really I probably shouldn't bother weighing in, but seriously- it was 7 hours, not 7 days. Hell, not even ONE day, not to mention it was fairly late in the day. My biggest gripe is that a friend of mine had posted a private entry with her new phone number and I couldn't access it when I wanted to input it into my phone (I'd been on the phone when I saw the post originally & couldn't put it in then) so it sucked I couldn't call her last night, but you know what? I lived. I'll call her today, the suffering will be ended.

At $20/year, a paid account ends up being 5cents a day- how does one even begin to worry about the penny you lost? Here's a cool trick: Bend over in any parking lot in America and I bet you'll find one to repay your damages.

technically, a year account is 25 bucks.

which works out to 7 cents (.0684391 to be precise) a day.

Guess I quoted the wrong price on their page. Whoops. I shall recalculate my tally and bump up the payment for pain and suffering to 2cents. Compensation can be found by bending over twice in previously mentioned American parking lot, or by utilizing the penny tray at any local gas station or convenience store.

I saw your away message about it. at First i thought LJ was gone for good but then i checked for myself and saw otherwise.I have a paid account only for extra icons. Since it was only 7 hours i didn't really see a need to grouse about it. Now 7 days with a paid account then i would be expecting something in return since i am not getting.
I have a paid account on adultfriendfinder and they are really good about compensation. But their down times are because they are doing something to improve the site. Asof late i have been away from LJ too much of the internet isn't a good thing.

Uhm yeah. I dunno. I understand that people are paying for a service and all, but damn. Why would you pay this buggy piece of crap monthly when you can buy your own domain name for ten bucks a month? All the image hosting you could ever want, a nifty website that isn't associated with yaoi, and COMPLETE CONTROL over wether your website is up or not. Seriously. Why are people so phobic about this shit?

Ten bucks a year. Not monthly. There are benefits to learning to cut and paste html, people!
