Well, the laptop is limping along with an ancient, frayed power cord while I wait for the new on to arrive. It's actually working very well but I'm still sending it in for a diagnostic since it's still under the service contract - the contract that includes accident coverage so there's no chance of "Oh, did you trip on the power cord? Sorry..." As a precaution I broke down this weekend and bought a super-cheap HP Compaq presario laptop for any downtime. I'm right in the middle of edits/revisions and the thought of relying on the family desktop was too much to bear. Once my baby is back the second laptop will be for general family use. We're getting to a point where we need something portable for homework assignments and this will fit the bill nicely.

But the important new is writercon is having another fundraiser - and this one is totally cool.

Keeping with our raison d'etre, this is a writing fundraiser. With a twist. Most writing fundraisers ask you to bid on an author to write a story for you. This fundraiser works the other way around - we want to pay for YOU to write for us. The way it is set up is that people pledge a set amount with set criteria and when author's contribute a drabble that meets that criteria, the money is tossed into the scholarship fund.

I've pledged $50 for Whoverse drabbles and would love to see this fandom represent! Old School, new school, book, audio, comics - you name it. If it has a Whoverse connection I'll count it towards my $50 pledge. I've also pledged another $50 for drabbles featuring pairings/characters that won our March Madness playoff so if you submit a drabble with the following: Giles/Ethan (BtVS), Sam/Gene (Life on Mars) or Spike (BtVS), I'll toss money into the pot.

But there are other awesome challenges!

We've got matching pledges for up to the first 200 drabbles as well as fandom specific pledges for Veronica Mars, Queer as Folk, Firefly/Serenity, Supernatural, BtVS Harry Potter as well as special pledges for fandoms younger than 1 year; dirty drabbles; and a special pledge of $5 for any Giles/Ethan dirty drabble.

This is also a chance to make writers dance for you - if you've ever had a yen for drabbles featuring your favorite fandom/pairing/character/kink, make an imperious pledge and watch us all bow to your crazy/kinky whims.

Drabbles are like chips, you can't stop at just one, so expect lots of chatter about this challenge. Seriously, Writercon does the coolest things.

ETA - apologies to everyone who saw this yesterday - I accidentally posted it under flock.

*facepalm*
