The Seventh Doctor is breaking my brain

Being a linear thinker in Doctor Who is akin to donning a raw sirloin bikini and jumping into piranha infested waters. It's madness! I've been mapping out my Seventh Doctor strategy (how adorable was Sylvester McCoy in the "Bringing Back the Doctor" Confidential?) and there are so many forks in the road. Do you watch the serials and then do the ( Read more... )

I've always taken on new canon as it comes - and because it's inevitably released out of order (even Big Finish has higher numbered audios that took place between a couple of lower-numbered ones, especially with Evelyn), then it gets watched/listened to out of order.

ETA: The sole exception is the new Eight and Lucie adventures. They're doing an overall arc there, so those I do listen to in order... the first time.

I think the BF stuff will break my brain. Why is it so hard to keep it linear, people!!

And yes, most of the 8/Lucie stuff should be listened to in order.

Gah! I really don't know. I know *some* people can jump around but I'm not really good with cherry picking eps. I NEED to start at the beginning of an arc/doctor/companion to make it work.

Each Doctor has his own personality so if you really liked Nine, you might like Six. He looks a bit clownish but he's quite gruff and not really as nice and jolly as some of the other docs.

Aaaand...I realize I am no help whatsoever!

I had the same sense of confusion when watching episodes out of order. Even when there's no continuity issues it still feels like walking into a party that's already started ( ... )

If anyone at metaquotes were to understand this I'd certainly consider it worthy of posting there, with permission obvs. May have to join whoquotes and post it there, b/c 1) true, 2) brilliantly Whoishly absurd wordage.

Heh. It is true isn't it? I remember being paralyzed when I first ventured beyond New Who. And slightly indignant. Would it have so hard to keep it neat and orderly? Then I realized it was Whofandom and the answer to that question was "Don't be absurd - what fun would that have been?!" It's like one of those stupid trust exercises where you fall back and hope someone catches you. And the canon usually does, unless you fall into The Adventuress of Henrietta Street and then you're on your own. ;)

And repost it wherever you'd like. I'm sure others feel my pain!

Yes, yes we do. It's a timey-wimey ball of canon, and the best thing to do is watch the show and repeat the MST3K comment: "It's just a show, I really should relax."
