de.li.cious

One of the things I realized after the "If You Build It, They Will Come" panel at Writercon* is that I've not been making the best use of available "community" resources. Case in point, de.li.cious. When I first signed up I bookmarked tons of things and ended up with a disjointed wodge of data that seemed impenetrable. So I walked away. Clearly ( Read more... )

I use delicious (I don't like that they took out the dots, it's too easy to confuse with the actual word now) a *lot*, not just for fandom stuff. The firefox tagging extension is great, and I also LOVE that you can hit ctrl+B and it will bring up a bar on the side with your delicious bookmarks and they're searchable, which is the key. That way, even if I have a million tags, I can still find what I'm looking for.

My tags aren't as well groomed as I'd like, but they work pretty well for me. When I'm saving a bookmark, I just think, "what word would I use to search for this later" and use that, along with any other more general terms that apply that I have tags established for already.

For fic, I use "fic" plus the name of the fandom plus "author:scarlettgirl" plus any characters' names or pairings I care about plus sometimes a type like "humor" or "fixit" or whatever. For meta, I use "lj:scarlettgirl" plus "meta" etc. So this post I have tagged as lj:scarlettgirl, owen_harper, meta, torchwood and doctorwho ( ... )

Thanks, Rusty! I think I get overwhelmed by tags and need to, as you say, keep them groomed in order to be effective. I also like the idea of a RL account for all those pesky things that are sitting in my Firefox bookmarks. There is a lot of potential there for real, useful organization and retrieval.

Searchability is a lovely, lovely feature and one that is helping me work through my delicious ennui.

(Wow - I'd forgotten about that post! There are still so few of us on the S2!Owen Bwuh? train. Solidarity, babe. *g*)
