Not Harshing the Squee

So...I had a long post detailing why the last chapter of Mockingjay killed my Hunger Games love (and no, I didn't give a good godamn who Katniss ended up with) but I thought "why bother"? It's not going to change the minds of anyone who loves the books and all it will do is allow me to spew all over someone else's squee

Ughhhhhh, that chapter sucked so hard, didn't it? If it makes you feel any better, I think Mockingjay is pretty much universally hated, especially that incredibly idiotic epilogue. I can't believe she got worn down into being with Peeta at all, frankly, and then the kids thing was so creepy. D:

LOL! It was long and ranty and made me angrier and angrier as I wrote it.

But seriously - she finally, FINALLY makes one decision all on her own and is whisked away and declared "mad" and "protected" by the people who have manipulated the shit out her for three books. I liked Katniss because she wasn't perfect and a bit selfish (in that her primary concern was protecting those people she considered "hers")and I really wanted her to be able to say "I DID THIS" and let the chips fall where they may.

Instead she gets to decide whether or not she wants to have a baby.

Collins had a hard time writing endings of any kind, in all three books. It was less of a problem in 1, but was bad in 2 and atrocious in 3.

See, I didn't mind 2. I liked the cliff-hanger feel and it served the purpose of being a bridge book that had you panting for more. But 3...oh 3 was absolutely ridiculous and just reinfored that Katniss was a tool for the menfolk in charge who all new better.

Argh!
