50th Anniversary - The First Doctor!

Last night was the first BBC America "Looking Back" special and it was far better than I anticipated.  I'll be honest, the last round of  BBCA specials were a bit too much "VH1: We Love the Doctor!" for my tastes.  Inane comments by tangentially connected talking heads does not a good special make. Then again, I'm not sure I was their target

I'll be there as usual - though thankful now I bought the tickets at the con last year and didn't put it on my "I'll get to it in a few months" list. Trust me, twenty-four years ago, I never would have dreamed Shaun and Robbie would have to make the decision to cap membership. Then, they were desperate just to get people to come.

How crazy is that? I bought my membership at the end of the last con as well since the rumors were already starting that this year was going to be a bit bonkers. The question is, is it all anniversary hype or is this the new model? My guess is the latter. Once you're parodied by Sesame Street there is no going back!

Although I did LOL when Tennant said something along the lines that using time travel as an escape clause sort of ruins the dramatic tension. *cough*

omg are you the only person in the world who doesn't hate the song from "the gunfighters"?

also, i watched the documentary today, and i kind of thought it was... Meh. they literally spoke to ONE woman the whole ep. they SKIPPED VICKI and treated stephen like he was the first replacement companion, which was extra weird when the editor chose that exact moment to SHOW A LONG CLOSE-UP OF VICKI. then they talked to a bunch more men. then tennant kind of rambled for a long time like your cousin talking about homestuck way too seriously. then my sister referred to him as "that skinny scraggly guy." that wasn't the fault of the show, it just also made me :(

We recorded the special, but haven't had a chance to watch yet. I think I've got the flu and needed to sleep and Mr. Bead had to work. Maybe we'll get to it tonight.
