There are a lot of people commenting on IMDB who in my opinion massively fail to get films. Check out the bulletin board for Lolita - there are more people arguing that it's a film about how the legal age for sex should be lowered as girls of Lolita's age are emotionally capable of dealing with it, and even that when girls of Lolita's age are abused we should take into account that they might actually be little sluts who deserve it.

oh yeah, and normally i just ignore them for the nutjobs they are. it was more that a larger number of people than normal utterly failed to get 'angel' in cinematic terms, which is what matters to me. i mean, i really liked 'the lives of others' but its actual filming was fairly pedestrian - it would have worked pretty much as well in novel format, apart from one or two scenes at the end, which is why it didn't make the list. (probably the only movie of the 10 above that isn't mannered in some way is 'a dirty carnival', and even that has some startlingly effective fight scenes.)
