So, I added the cream, and... bad idea. It probably didn't help that I added a 600ml carton to about 2L of soup. (I'm used to making pumkin soup for the extended family, like, 10-14L at a time). It tasted like an unholy alliance between soup and a profiterole. I tipped it down the sink and started again.
