kpopv. prompt is rain and soccer fields.
The prospect of suspended classes usually made Lu Han happy, but as co-captain of the soccer team, he was disappointed at the sight of rain pelting his bedroom window on the scheduled day of soccer tryouts.
“It’s okay, we can reschedule to next week,” Minho, the captain, suggested over the phone. Lu Han frowned at the thought but agreed. After texting Joonmyun to announce the rescheduling over the student council twitter account, Lu Han tried falling asleep again, but decided he already had way too much pent up energy to do so.
Which was why he ended up in front of the neighborhood soccer field half an hour later, gazing at the muddy grass longingly to the sound of raindrops falling on his umbrella like bullets.
As he trudged onto the field experimentally, he saw a figure in front of the rusty old goalpost on his left, lying down on the mud. He stepped towards it, hoping it wasn’t a dead body. He held onto his phone in his raincoat pocket for safety.
Upon closer inspection, he was surprised to recognize the figure. It was a transferee in his homeroom class - Kim Minseok, the boy who’s caught his eye ever since he stepped into their classroom. Lu Han hoped to make friends with him on the first day of school, but despite his usual sociability, he had only managed to introduce himself to the boy. There was something in Kim Minseok’s smile that made him uncomfortable, and he wasn’t sure what, but he found himself admiring the glint in his eye and the softness of his cheeks.
Yixing had told him that obviously, Lu Han found Kim Minseok attractive. While he couldn’t deny that, he didn’t really want to have a crush on someone who was a possible friend. But it was hard when Kim Minseok would always laugh at his obnoxious jokes in class and always smile at him whenever they caught each other’s eyes.
And here Kim Minseok was, lying on the muddy grass with brown stains on his white t-shirt and basketball shorts, his arms tucked under his head and his eyes closed. He was drenched, his hair matted against his forehead. Lu Han swallowed down all his apprehensions and walked towards him, squatting beside him so that the umbrella covered Minseok’s face as well.
Minseok stirred, opening one of his eyes at the lack of light and jerking awake when he saw Lu Han’s face right above his. Lu Han laughed and fell backwards, his butt landing in a particularly muddy spot.
“Crap, my jeans -“ he gasped for air, still laughing at the expression on Minseok’s face. Minseok, in contrast, sat up and smiled, embarrassed.
When Lu Han finally calmed down, he sat up and set his umbrella back upright, though he was already drenched and his clothes already mud-stained. He wiped his eyes with the back of his hands. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s alright,” Minseok replied, smiling shyly. He shook his hair of water (though to no avail; rain was still pelting his face) and ran a hand through it, pushing it back and wow - that looked good, oh man -
Lu Han then realized that Minseok was still being attacked by the rain shower, so he scooted over beside him so that they could share. Minseok smiled at him gratefully and Lu Han did the same, feeling tingly where his knee touched Minseok’s.
“What are you doing here?” Lu Han asked, genuinely curious.
Minseok shrugged. “Uh, I was going to try out for the soccer team today -“
“No way?” Lu Han exclaimed, grin becoming ten times bigger. Wow, if Kim Minseok wasn’t perfect enough. “Wow, I didn’t know you played!”
Minseok nodded. “Yeah, I haven’t played in a while though, so I wanted to practice.” He crinkled his nose in displeasure and stared out into the field. “I don’t know, maybe it’s the rain, but I was doing pretty bad before you got here.”
“I bet you did fine,” he said.
“I don’t know,” Minseok repeated uneasily and shrugged again, “I mean, I’ve played soccer for a long time, but I was never that great at it. I just love it, that’s all.”
Lu Han’s stomach lurched. He wasn’t a particularly sympathetic person, but Minseok looking all sad like that made him feel terrible. Even if only a few seconds had passed, he already missed the gleaming smile on Minseok’s face.
He looked around, and spotted a ball only a few feet away from where they were sitting. “That your ball?” he asked, pointing at it. Minseok nodded, and Lu Han got up and jogged towards it, kicking it back towards where they were sitting. “Come on, let’s play!”
Minseok looked up at him, shocked. “But you’re the co-captain of the soccer team, you might judge me.”
Lu Han raised an eyebrow and grinned. “How’d you know that?” he asked playfully, stepping on the soccer ball in front of Minseok.
Minseok laughed, and Lu Han thought he was imagining the slight flush on his cute face. “I heard,” he answered, shy smile back on his face. “I also heard that you’re pretty great at it.”
Now it was Lu Han’s turn to blush. “Not really, but whatever! Come on, let’s just play!” He almost sounded whiny.
Minseok bit his lip hesitantly, and Lu Han made an exasperated noise (because of how hyped up he was - but also maybe because Minseok was being too cute).
“Please? I’d really love to play with you,” he pleaded. Minseok laughed nervously but stood up anyway.
“Fine, alright. Don’t hate me if my moves suck, okay? I’m rusty,” he replied.
“I would never,” Lu Han said with the biggest smile on his face as he jogged backward to set the ball on the muddy grass between them. He laughed at the smear of mud on Minseok’s face from when he wiped his shirt on his cheek. Cute.

kpopv, prompt is prom committee.
“Not quite straight enough, Amber,” Soojung said, a little bit louder than her she usually spoke so her voice could reach the girl standing on the stepladder. She tapped her clipboard with the fluffy end of her pen impatiently.
Amber wanted to spit at her, but instead, she made a face and adjusted the banner that said PROM 2012 raising her end a little bit higher. She may not be able to spit, but glitter poured from the sign whenever she moved it, making Soojung try to shake the glitter out of her hair irritably every few seconds. That was a good enough alternative. “You’re not quite straight enough,” Amber retorted in annoyance as she pushed a pin farther in the wall.
“Clever. Six out of ten,” Soojung replied with a snort, not even looking up from her handwritten list of things to do around the gym to transform it to a party venue. She crossed out Put the main banner up twice.
“Why the hell aren’t you doing any of the dirty work anyway?” Amber asked as she climbed down. Soojung was part of logistics but she was doing nothing but being pseudo-supervisor. That was Qian’s job, though said girl was too busy enjoying the food tasting a little bit too much across the court. Amber glanced at Vic as she giggled while trying to be as dainty as possible while eating a chicken lollipop.
“I’m in a skirt,” Soojung replied plainly. She shook her hips lazily for effect.
“Jinri’s in a skirt and she’s actually doing stuff,” Amber said. They both looked over to a stepladder only a few feet away from them, where Jinri stood tacking in the other end of the main banner. Chanyeol and Jongin stayed at the bottom of the ladder, having volunteered to hold it for her. Their grins weren’t very subtle.
“She doesn’t mind, her ass is great,” Soojung said, fondness clear in her tone. She even scooted a little bit closer to take a better look.
“You would know,” Amber said.
“Of course, she’s my date,” Soojung confided with a small smile, glancing up at Jinri one last time before heading to Qian. Everyone in the school knew that Soojung and Jinri had said yes to Sehun and Jongin when asked to be their dates to the prom, but what hardly anyone knew was that the two girls were making out regularly in the last cubicle of the girl’s locker room.
“Who are you taking?” she asked Amber, who was following her.
After a small pause, she laughed. “Henry and Kris asked me.”
Soojung’s forehead creased in confusion. “Wow, which one are you picking? Both being your best friends and all.”
“No, I mean the three of us are going together,” Amber replied with a grin. “I can’t possibly pick between them, that’s just…” she didn’t bother finishing the sentence.
“Well, I’m disappointed, I thought they both realized they had a cute girl so near to being their girlfriend and decided to fight for you. The drama would’ve been fun,” she commented with a sigh. Amber rolled her eyes. Soojung laughed, blew her a kiss, then looked over to the side. “Oh finally, Sunyoung’s here. Pssst, Sunyoung!” she called out, waving her clipboard overdramatically.
Sunyoung was blushing, brisk-walking towards them with three red roses in her hand. “Sorry I’m late!” she said, bowing profusely as she walked. “Stuff…happened,” she said as she arrived in front of them.
Jinri popped out of nowhere, hugging Soojung from behind, her chin on Soojung’s shoulder.
“Oooh, those are pretty,” she said. “You should get me pretty flowers, Soojung.” Soojung pointedly ignored her, only a flicker of a smile showing that she heard what Jinri said.
“Who’re those from?” Amber grinned, reading the ribbons tied around each rose. Prom with me? each word written on each ribbon.
Sunyoung tried hiding her smile behind the roses, but her cheeks that looked like they ached from overuse failed her. Her face-splitting grin was too obvious. “J-Joonmyun.”
Soojung and Jinri screamed in unison, Jinri squishing Sunyoung’s face in her hands, and Amber started laughing hysterically. Sunyoung looked really embarrassed but mostly pleased. They all knew that Sunyoung has had the hugest crush on the class president for the longest time now, ever since she was a freshman.
“What’s going on over here?” Qian asked as she butt in, licking her fingers clean. She held a half-finished shrimp cocktail in her hand, which Amber promptly took to finish.
“Sunyoung is a Disney princess,” Jinri singsang, still cradling Sunyoung’s red face in her arms. “Prom is her Happily Ever After.”
Qian made a face, blank eyes and crooked frown saying what the hell are you talking about.
“Junmyeon asked this baby girl to prom,” Soojung explained, smirking triumphantly.
“Wow, oh my god!” Qian screeched as she enveloped Sunyoung in a hug. “Oh my god, he’s going to buy you such a gorgeous expensive corsage, god knows how rich that boy is, congratulations -“
“So that obviously means that we have to make this night the best night ever,” Amber said, sucking her fingers and placing the glass that held the cocktail onto the bleachers.
“It will be,” Jinri remarked, sure of herself, her grin blinding as she wraps an arm around Soojung’s waist.
Amber put a hand in the middle of all of them, gesturing them to all do the same. “C’mon guys, let’s make this prom amazing!”
“One, two, three - GO PROM COMM!” they cheered as they threw their hands up in the air.
(“Ew, Amber, was that your shrimp hand?!” Soojung screamed. Amber nodded and wiped it on Soojung’s sweater. “You are dead, Amber,” she screeched with a glare and proceeded to chase the other girl around with her clipboard, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Business as usual, everyone, get back to work!” Qian said to everyone staring at the center of the gym, respectful smile on her lips. “This prom isn’t going to run itself, guys!”)

YAY
It didn’t surprise Jongin when his doorbell rang five times two minutes later. Being neighbors in an apartment building was extremely convenient for the two friends. Before Jinri’s incessant bell-ringing could wake his parents up, he jogged towards the door and opened it.
“Stop showing off and put a shirt on,” Jinri said, shifting her math book, paper, and pencilcase in her arms.
“It’s hot,” he said, frowning. “A turkey leg,” he deadpanned as he stared at the lump of meat she held in her hands in a transparent plastic bag. “I was thinking more like popcorn or something.”
“Whatever, it’s still food,” she replied with a big smile on her face. She held it out for him to take. “I heated it up just for you.” Jongin stared at her for a while and then shrugged, grabbing it. He let her in as he unwrapped the turkey leg and took a big bite.
“So,” he said with his mouth full, Jinri crinkling her nose in disgust, “what’s confusing?”
“What’s not confusing?” She sighed desperately, turning on her foot to head towards Jongin’s bedroom. “Seriously, teach me everything.”
He snorted and followed her in, closing the door and bellyflopping on his bed. She jumped on the bed as well and lay on her stomach beside him, spreading out her worksheets and answers on the pillows.
“Your neat notes are useless if you don’t understand them,” Jongin said as he grabbed a pen from his sidetable and started correcting her homework. This wasn’t unusual for them: Jongin always helped her with algebra or chemistry, whichever was bothering her, and Jinri always tried to help him with his English essays when needed but failed anyway because her grammar was terrible.
After attempting to answer three more exercises and failing, Jinri’s eyes started to fall, her arms wrapped around one of Jongin’s pillows.
“You don’t need to square anything, it’s just 6x plus two - Choi Jinri, are you fucking kidding me?” Jongin said when he saw her head cradled in her arms.
Jinri’s eyes fluttered open and she yawned. “I’m so tired, okay, I just finished my Lit essay an hour ago,” she defended herself. She hugged Jongin’s pillow tighter and looked for his blanket with her toes.
“Go home,” Jongin groaned, pulling his pillow from her arms.
“I’m too tired and I haven’t slept here in a while, can I just? Besides, I like the smell of your sheets,” she whined, already half-asleep. This happened a lot too. No matter how late Jinri said she could stay up, by 11pm, she was knocked out. Her parents stopped looking for her late at night because they knew they knew that she was either at Jongin’s or Soojung’s, more frequently the former, since they lived closer together. It never bothered her parents because they’ve been friends ever since they were born, having been neighbors ever since.
“No,” Jongin said. He never really meant it and Jinri knew that.
“Thanks,” she replied with a weak smile, turning over and tugging on his blanket again, now with both her feet. “I’ll finish my homework tomorrow morning…”
“Just go to sleep,” he said as he reached for his blanket and tugged it over her face.
Jinri grunted a thank you and turned around, falling asleep in seconds.
Jongin finished up seventeen more of her exercises and ended up too exhausted to pull out the mattress he usually slept on when Jinri slept over from his closet. He fell asleep beside her, surrounded by inequalities and graphing paper, unconsciously stealing the blanket from her grip.
Jongin groaned as he turned around, the sun seeping into his blinds that he forgot to close. He tugged his blanket over his head and screwed his eyelids closed, wishing the sunlight would just disappear without him having to get up out of bed. He refused to get up this early. But the world didn’t work that way, and he sat up in annoyance, trying to reach out to the blinds with his arms. Unsuccessful, he turned his head in exasperation when his brain suddenly short-circuited.
Beside him was Jinri, but that wasn’t all. It was a very long-legged, bare-stomached Jinri. Her oversized shirt had gone askew in her sleep and slid down her shoulder. It bunched up under her chest, exposing her pale stomach, looking soft to the touch, and the curve of her side seeming to mock his surprise. He didn’t notice the night before how short the boxers she had been wearing were, but now that realization was clear. Even the top of her cloud print underwear was showing.
Oh my god, thought Jongin, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, his mind wouldn’t shut up.
Fuck, if only if her shirt was thinner - oh my god, shut up, that’s so fucking perverted - is she even wearing a - shit, this is Jinri, this is Choi fucking Jinri -
Jongin squeaked and threw the blanket on top of her. He raced to his bathroom and stared at the mirror for a good minute, not believing what he had just seen (and willing his boner away).
It was twenty minutes of god-knows-what later when he threw an old shirt on and got the courage to step out into his bedroom. It just so happened that Jinri decided to stir right at that moment, sitting up on her elbows, her hair messily framing her face and her eyes disoriented. Her shirt slid even further down her shoulder. Jongin gulped, eyes fixated on her against his own will.
“Good morning,” she greeted, smiling with her eyes closed like a pleased puppy. He had seen that smile many times before, but this was the first time it made his stomach drop. He looked away as quickly as possible. He ended up grabbing his phone and staring at it, and as stupid as he felt, he couldn’t bring himself to look back up.
“Your mom called looking for you,” he lied.
“So early?” she complained. He could see her stretching her arms above her head at the corner of his eye, and he swallowed dryly, nodding. “Okay then, better get going.”
She crawled to the foot of the bed (Goddamn it, Jongin thought) and scooped up her things in her arms. “I’ll text you later,” she chimed as she left. He waved as she went out the door, letting herself out like she usually did.
“What the fuck?” he asked out loud as he landed face first into his bed. He could smell her shampoo on his pillow.

wtf the whole week???
Just as Jongin was thinking of what to reply, along the lines of studying all week (a complete lie - he had just been playing video games and trying not to think about how Jinri looked naked), his mom called him from the kitchen. He threw his phone on his desk and headed out of his room.
“Yes,” he said, his cheek resting against the refrigerator door.
“Jinri said she needs lettuce, can you hand it over to her? Or if she hasn’t started yet, tell her to come over. She’s home alone,” his mom said without looking up from the dishes she was cleaning.
Jongin groaned. “Why can’t you do it?”
“Why can’t you wash the dishes?” his mom retorted, remaining unfazed. Jongin made a tired noise. “Just do it,” she said sharply, and he huffed indignantly.
“Fine,” he said, butterflies suddenly exploding in his stomach. He grabbed the lettuce and went out, knocking on Jinri’s door quickly. He heard her voice from inside, saying the door was open, so he just stepped in hesitantly, nervously palming the ball of lettuce.
“Wow, look who’s alive,” she greeted as she looked up from the chopping board. Jongin frowned because is she even wearing shorts under that shirt.
“I was busy,” Jongin replied, trying to look as offended as possible. Jinri snorted, walking towards him. She took the lettuce from his hand.
“You could have at least texted back.” This time, she didn’t bother hiding the hurt in her eyes. He flinched under her stare, feeling terrible about how he was acting.
“Sorry,” he said, biting his lip. She was still pouting, and he had a sudden urge to kiss her. He could never do it though, he was too much of a coward to be that forward. “Anyway, my mom said you can come over to eat if you don’t feel like cooking.”
Her face brightened up and she nodded. “Oh, okay. Wait, I’ll just fix up.”
Jongin watched her skip to the counter, gather some vegetables in her arms, and walk to the fridge. After some struggle he walked over and opened the fridge door for her, laughing at her. All until she leaned over to put the vegetable back and oh my god, she’s really not wearing shorts under her shirt. Oh my god, oh my god -
“Oh my god, why,” he shrieked, wanting to cry. She looked at him questioningly and all he could answer was a strangled noise.
“What’s wrong?” she asked him, standing up. The shoulder of her shirt slid down once again. Jongin felt like dying.
“Uuugh, you need stop,” he said as violently pulled the shoulder of her shirt back up. He then threw his hands up in the air and strode to the sofa across the room, flopping down, his face in his hands.
“What the hell?” Her face screamed annoyance and worry at the same time. “Stop what?”
“Stop -“ He waved his arms up and down, “Doing that thing where you’re like - like -“
“Like?”
“Like - like seducing me and shit,” he cried, chest tightening as soon as he heard the words tumble out of his mouth, “Not that I don’t think it’s hot - you are - but it’s just -“
He stopped, gaping at Jinri, who was turning red and smiling. It was her turn to put her face in her hands. She kept biting her lip and shaking her head, and he started panicking.
“W-what,” was all he could say.
After a while, she peeked her eyes from between her fingers. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to -“ she started, but bit her lip again, stopping her laughter. “You seriously think I’m…” she couldn’t seem to bring herself to say it.
“Oh god, did I say you were hot?” He groaned and leaned back. She laughed nervously as she nodded. “I’m sorry.”
“No, really, I’m sorry.” Her nervous laughter continued, and he had never found her prettier in his life. He made another strangled noise and he wanted the floor to swallow him whole, but then Jinri held his hand. He gave up on thinking of ways to transport to another dimension. “I didn’t mean to seduce you and shit,” she said.
Jongin nodded, not knowing how to reply. They were quiet for a while, just holding hands. It wasn’t so different as it was before, when they would watch movies on the same couch after a terrible test. Most of the tension was gone and the freak out exhausted him.
“Shit, sorry for making this,” he broke the silence and gestured at them with his free hand, “weird.”
“Come on, we’re best friends, it’s not that weird,” she replied, her smile shining. She squeezed his hand and bit her lip again. “But weird isn’t that bad?”
Jongin narrowed his eyes, not sure where Jinri was headed.
“I’m just saying,” she singsang, “you aren’t gross-looking yourself.”
He wasn’t sure how it happened, but they ended up making out on Jinri’s bed for an hour, her fingers in his hair and his hands cupping her cheeks. They only stopped when Jinri parted for air and pillowed her head on Jongin’s arm.
“I’m really sleepy,” she complained, eyes falling as she yawned.
Jongin groaned. “Choi Jinri, are you fucking kidding me,” he whined.
“Just sleep here,” she insisted, closing her eyes and turning away from Jongin, her head on her own pillow.
“Do you think my mom could guess that this happened? I don’t think she’d allow me to sleep over ever again,” he said, then yawned, “and who said I wanted to?” He threw her blanket over the both of them halfheartedly, tired.
She smiled. “Whatever. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” he repeated, shutting off the lampshade and lying down beside her. He fell asleep to the image of her sleeping figure beside his in the dark.
