It may be that some ministers get a bit annoyed with folk who don't appear ever at Church except for their big day of looking good and adhering with the folks' wishes! After all, if Faith and Belief are the criteria, how do you judge that? 'By their fruits shall ye know them ( ... )

This is why I said that the question asked should be "Why do you want to be married in this faith?" If the answer is "cos it's my parents faith" or "its the one I was baptised into" then that's a serious heads up for the priest.

Someone who has genuine faith, but believes that worship doesn't have to happen in Church should be pretty obvious. I think there are plenty of people who believe in God, but have difficulty sitting through a Sunday service. I don't think that these people should be denied the right to be married in church, or forced to go to services when that isn't their bag. And sure, there will be people who make all the right noises and slip the net. Aren't there always?

What's so obvious about it? If they don't believe worship should happen in a church, why should marriage? I am one of these people -forests and places beside the sea are sacred to me, which is why they are where I would marry, if such a thing occurred to me.

I think there are plenty of people who believe in God, but have difficulty sitting through a Sunday service. If they can't handle concentrating on the Divine for half an hour (an hour if they are catholic) on a sunday, how can marrying in the place of boredom have any real meaning for them ( ... )

I think in large part it stems from the registrars office. They ask the Church rep if the people concerned are "of their parish". This is interpreted as "of their congregation", which really isn't the same thing at all.

Why Longton, rather than your local church?
