Luke Cage Episode 5

Claaaaaaaaaaaaire!!!!!

I love her introduction to this series.  Gets mugged, chases him down, and kicks his ass.  And that she learned it from her Mama.  Right away I love her Mom and their interactions.  They love each other, they snark, and they talk.  It was so mothers and daughters.  Hell's Kitchen stopped making sense and, when things get bad, we all want to turn to our moms just like Claire.  I like that she found out about Luke from the news rather than some contrived meeting in the street.  Now I get to anticipate her seeking him out.

Cottonmouth hitting his neighbors for money in an effort to shift their attention onto Luke backfired but it demonstrates how the desperation is taking hold bit by bit.  Chekov's bullet has been introduced so the real question is how that gets resolved but I'm fine waiting.  I'm really coming to love how the threat of Diamondback lurks in the corner and that Cotton's desire for revenge against Luke isn't strong enough for him to give up Harlem.  He'll find a way to raise whatever price Diamondback put on that bullet but he won't give up his world.

Luke moving closer and closer to being the Superhero For Hire was also cool.  He's in a position to help them get what Cotton took so he's going to.  I loved him breaking Aisha's gun through her purse at the funeral.

Speaking of, the funeral furthered the paralleled contradiction of Luke and Cotton.  Cotton's eulogy was about power and Luke's about facing bullies.  Each honored Pops in his own way while warning the other.  It was a nice construct.

That said, Misty's right that they declared World War 3 and that Harlem will be the casualty.  Things are going to get really messy.
